Just got back from Luosto with CT

Arrived back yesterday with from Luosto with Canterbury Travel; we did the 4 day trip and it was fantastic - the kids loved it. To reassure anyone going there is loads of snow and the milder temperatures are better for the children who can happily play in the snow for ages without freezing.

The days are filled with activities from 10 till 4 and there was only our coach at every actitivity so no long queues. The guide was great and had everyone singing songs...etc. The Elfs that we met along the way were fantastic and joined in fully with the kids - having snowball fights etc (even the coach driver was out playing). We stayed in the Log Cabins which were lovely and warm and provided all the facilities that you needed. The food was what you expect from a buffet and suited us fine; however, some obviously expected a 5 course dinner which you DONT get and would be unsuitable when you have loads of kids who aren%26#39;t interested in sitting down for long periods of time.

The visit for to Father Christmas again was good; however, the room that you see him in is rather small and as we were a large party all with one booking reference we had to go in together. We all had to stand in one corner as they film the event for the DVD that is included in your booking......only one DVD per booking; so if you are several families under one booking you will only get one DVD and will have to purchase others seperately for 20E. This is something which caused problems on our coach as many of us were group bookings and some didn%26#39;t realise that this was the case.

Apart from this the whole trip and organisation was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

The only thing which I would be warey of is the extra excursions. We booked an evening sleigh ride which was advertised as a sleigh ride through the woods with a stop to cook sausages...etc Many of the other families on our coach booked this aswell; however, after about 15 minutes on the sleighs we stopped in the dark to have pancakes...etc We stopped for over half an hour and then when we went to get back into our sleighs some had gone and nobody could tell which sleigh they arrived in. Each sleigh contained the helmets for each individual (correctly fitted)so it was chaos - in the dark with screaming kids!! Eventually we all sat in any sleigh and the drivers had to re-fit everyone with helmets. We then had a return 15 minutes in the sleigh and that was it - not what we had paid for at all.

Apart from this our whole trip was amazing and truley memorable.

I%26#39;m so pleased you posted this message. We%26#39;re going to Luosto with CT on 20th flying from Manchester and you just put my mind at rest. It%26#39;s an expensive holiday with four children and you so want it to be perfect for them.

What should we wear on the flight? Don%26#39;t want to be too hot or too cold.

And any advice on cameras?

Thanks. I%26#39;m sure I will have other questions.

For cameras, the main thing is to make sure you either take a spare battery, or the battery charger (plus travel adaptor), or both! The cold weather drains batteries a lot faster and the last thing you want is to miss out on any photo ops.

|||

We eat at the Log Cabin restaurant and the food was fine (chicken nuggets, fish fingers..etc for kids, chicken, beef, salad...etc for adults). We had lunch on day at the Hovi and it was fine.

We flew with Thomson and they were great - xmas films, christmas songs...etc All soft drinks are free of charge so you only pay for alcoholic drinks.

We travelled wearing snow boots and ski jackets as we had our own outer wear; however, I did pack hats, gloves and thermals in my hand luggage.

|||

As promised, I%26#39;ve got more questions!

Is there an iron/towels in the log cabins?

How many layers do you need under the snowsuits?

It%26#39;s so difficult to know how much to pack. With six of us, we could end up needing our own sleigh if I%26#39;m not careful!!

|||

Iron, ironing board and towels in cabins along with a drying cupboard. The only thing which they didn%26#39;t have was a kettle so you have to boil water in a pan for hot drinks.

Our kids wore thermals and a mid layer + ski jacket and sallopettes. We wore thermal, mid layer on the top and then ski jacket and sallopettes. I think the most useful thing that we took were balaclavas as they covered the face and neck and were ideal for the kids.

|||

Thank you. That%26#39;s so helpful.

Do we need a 2-pin plug adaptor?

|||

Yes, and dont forget any battery chargers for cameras, phones, camcorders...etc. The cold makes the batteries run down very quickly so they will probably need to be charged daily.

Thank you very much for your advice, Carolinesnow. I shall feel a lot happier when we get on that plane tomorrow morning after reading your posts.
