Saariselkal

We have been to Lapland many times, but never to Saariselka.

Could anyone let us no what the log cabins are like with Inghams, what are the best excursions and eating out places, and also is there any good facilities for buying food for self catering.

We leave on the 13th.

Many thanks Al and Linda Norfolk

We went to Saariselka at Easter and can%26#39;t wait till we return in February. There is a large supermarket there which seemed to stock everything. It also has a cafe in it and there were more cafes near the information centre. We were staying half board and only tried one other restaurant which was near the Holiday Club. I think it is possible to eat in any of the hotels when self catering. We will be self-catering this year and I hope to get everything we need at the supermarket - might pack some teabags though!

The only excursion we did was the reindeer safari as we spent the rest of the time walking or cross country skiing.

Hope this helps.

Which companys are you going to saar with in feb?

Many thanks for the reply,we are hoping to eat in most of the time , so the information regarding the supermarket is great.

This is our third time to Lapland, before we have been to both Ruks and Yllas both fantastic, so if anyone wants any information please let us know.

Many thanks ,

Hello Bluny

We have booked independently for our trip to Saariselka. We booked flights with Finnair from Heathrow and the appartment was booked via the central booking office. Decided to go self catering this year as we are taking two big kids (25 and 23!) and thought this would be cheaper. We booked everything back in April so are getting really excited now. Just need to find the best place to book lessons and ski equipment.

Ok Thanks hants.

Do you fly direct or do have a change over?Asking as want to book for feb half term and Inghams only fly to kittila with a 230+transfer time and do not fancy that.

Hi Bluny

We have to change at Helsinki and get flight to Ivalo then 20 minutes on the bus. We did this last year and it worked well, although there is quite a dash through the airport at Helsinki.Fortunately the luggage is transferred straight through to Ivalo so you don%26#39;t have to wait at the carousel in Helsinki.

We are going during the Feb half term holiday.

So how long do you spend in Helsinki waiting for the next flight? What would happen if you missed that flight are there others that then fly onto ivalo that you would be able to catch?

Sounds a daft question but just looking at all options and prices for different areas.

The flights we have booked have a 45 minute change over time. Last year the plane was late leaving Heathrow and the connecting flight waited for us(both Finnair). Our luggage didn%26#39;t get onto that flight but came up on the next flight a couple of hours later and was delivered to the hotel by taxi. The same thing happened to some people on a flight from Germany and we thought it must be a common occurrence as we were handed forms to fill in immediately at Ivalo and the staff were very organised. There are possibilities for longer waits between flights. We have about an hour and a half to wait at Helsinki on the return journey.
