I%26#39;m going in Jan too and am planning on it being v v cold - but I%26#39;ve not been before so hopefully one of the other experts on here can give you a better answer than this ...

I%26#39;ve read it can be VERY cold; www.weatherbonk.com said that it averages between -9 and -19 in January (on another forum someone said it had got to - 35 with wind chill last year - yikes!). Having said that it seems to be pretty mild at the moment - not sure if that%26#39;s normal or not.

not sure about snow - sorry! but there seems to be plenty now and it%26#39;s not going to melt ...

It is very mild right now.

Jan can be anything, too. But be prepared for extreme cold -30 or so + wind factor, don%26#39;t expect too much daylight. There will be enough snow for all winter activities.

Hi JOanne.

I was in Yllas in January last year with my daughter.

Our first day it was about -1 the following morning it was -25/30 with bright blue sky, and for three nights in a row we saw the northern lights, it was magical.

January is a nice time to go, even though you won%26#39;t get a lot of daylight, the days ARE getting longer, plus it%26#39;s not as crowded as it can be before Christmas, really good time to go, it will always be my first choice.

Enjoy, Trev.

Yes, weather can be anything between +5 to -52 degrees. Normally in January it is something between -5 to -30. -52 was too cold...

Also if it is cold there are better possibility to see Northern lights. And the weather in Lapland is dryer than near seas so it doesn%26#39;t feel so cold.
