Hi me79 thanks you so much. We have one from a couple of years ago, but as they change of course, every year. We will be buying at least one when we get there thank you so much, I could not find it on site!

Hi,

All the cross country tracks are not open yet, only 72 km of them are in a skiable condition. Seems that all the illuminated skiing tracks are open and the routes to the cafés. Not sure though, check it when you get there, it may also change because they are going to open more tracks soon.

Btw, have you been to Ylläs in March? I would recommend that too. In addition to January and February, late March is also a good time to go skiing to Ylläs. All the tracks are open then, there%26#39;s a lot of snow and sun and it%26#39;s a bit warmer. Most Finns go to Lapland during spring time, late March or early April.

Sadly have not been able to come in March, as we are tied to school holidays. Used to come to Lapland End Jan Early/mid fed just before higher rates came in but now are tied to either Christmas/new year or Feb half term really. For next couple of years at least. Thanks for the info greatly appreciated.

What is the weather like generally in finland at the start of April?

|||

Well, it depends on the location. For example Helsinki is about 1000 km south of Saariselkä, so the weather is quite different in the southern Finland and Lapland at the start of April.

Temperatures vary a lot, in the southern Finland at the start of April it may be anything between +10 and +15 degrees and no snow. Might be a few almost summerlike days, nigths still cold.

In Lapland there is still a lot of snow at the start of April, approx 50-90 cm. Temperatures vary from -10 to +5. Because it is usually below zero temperatures at nights, the snow won%26#39;t melt. Lot of bright sun shine, you can get tanned and need sunglasses. A very small change of rain though in April, but it is very rare and still the snow won%26#39;t melt too much.

We have been to Levi at the end of April and at the start of May. Good skiing, slopes at ideal condition, mostly sunny, warm weather (+5 to +10) and very nice, did rain on one day though. Almost no snow left at the village, but a lot in the slopes. Did you know that it is possible to cross country ski in Kilpisjärvi (Enontekiö) still in June?

|||

No I did not know that.

That was one place we would have loved to have gone to in December but the trip was so far and travelling all that way with 2 children put me of.

Does the snow stay for longer in Saariselka being so far north than it would say in Levi or Yllas?

|||

Oops sorry, I meant that temperatures in Helsinki at the start of April vary from +0 to + 15.

|||

Thats ok I thought I had read somewhere that the temp can get to around +15 degrees that time of year.
