kids and ski school, what's minimum age?

could anyone tell me if there is a minimum age for children to be allowed into the ski schools at the levi or yllas resorts.

we went to levi this year with our 6 and 2 year old children for the santa experiance and for our wedding so did not go with the intention to ski but like so many,the children had such a great time (and ourselves) they want to go back.

we would like to learn to ski this time but our daughter will still only be 3 years old when we are looking to go.

appreciate any comments, i know i could contact the local tourist information but hope someone out there will know.

Hi ruby

In the inghams brochure it says that ski school is from 5 years but saying that we met people in kids land whos children were having lessons that were only four.This could of been private lessons.How did the wedding go did you have a great time?and did you enjoy levi?

hi bluny,

thanks for that, looks like may have to wait another couple of years before our daughter can learn but i think we will hopefully go back to either yllas or levi again next year.

the wedding was fanatastic, got married on the 5th december and the temp. was still about -3 and the trees covered heavily in snow which made for fantastic photos.we had planned evrything independently by email so not 100% sure if things would run smoothly but credit to the company that organised it everthing was spot on.

levi was great for our kids, it was the first time they had seen snow on this scale and loved every minute,trips were very good and the 2 santa%26#39;s we took the children to were very good.

been following this forum for nearly 12 months now and still looking even more since we came back it is good that i can now relate to comments made by people.

regards

From Yllas (Saaga side) the ski school is well run and caters from 4 years as far as I can tell.

We booked learn to ski packages through Crystal for our 5 and 7 year old. The 5 year old is struggling - the 7 year old is on the button lift and almost doing parallel turns after 4 days!!!

However - we%26#39;ve ended up paying for a few private 1 on 1 lessons in order to help them. Even if your child is in a small group of 4 or 5 children, if there%26#39;s only 1 instructor then they can only hold one child at a time on a pole or in front of them (while they ski backwards...). So our little ones got left out on the first day - all a bit of a shambles - but after complaining another lesson was put on later in the afternoon and in fact in the last two days our two have ended up in 1 to 1s when other children have dropped out - so all%26#39;s well that ends well.

I think that probably the other side of Yllas has better nursery slopes and ski kindergarten - but then the children are happy enough here. We%26#39;re here more for the excursions than the skiing really.

So - group lessons ok for 7 year old - recommend private for a 5 year old to get them started.

hi thanks for the info, looks like our youngest will have to wait a coiple of more years, not to much a disapointment as the excursions fill the day anyway.

would be interested to hear your views on yllas, does it cater for children in the 4 to 9 year age group and are you staying at the saaga hotel?

|||

Yes - we were saying at the Saaga hotel - much the best choice (still need to write full report - have been busy since Christmas!).

Lots available for 4-9 year olds - recommend Santa trip ; Arctic Speed (husky camp via snowmobile - best trip - 118 Euros per person); Legend of Four Winds (snowmobile safari to Reindeer corral - 106 Euros).

Other than that, play on the slopes, do lots of sledding, play with skis.

By the end of the first week my 5 year old was doing snowplough turns from the top of the long T bar on the right hand side (looking up the mountain) - so it doesn%26#39;t take long to learn!

Did you enjoy Yllas?What were crystal ski like as a company?

|||

When we were in Levi we booked private lessons for all of us and the ski school recommended 1 instructor for us and 1 for the 3 kids (4,6,7) By the end of the first lesson the oldest too were flying up and skiing down the slope in kidsland - The 4 year old wasnt really into it - he hated the skiboots but I was weel impressed with the progress the other two made - We are all absolute beginners - The hubby was a natural too - unfortunately I wasnt so good........but I really enjoyed myself and would def do it again!!! I felt that the private lesson was worth it - the instructors were very patient!!!

Hi Bluny. Really enjoyed Yllas and would recommend it - but don%26#39;t have anywhere else to compare with of course! Crystal were good. The ski rep is called Claire and she was really ace - very helpful, very friendly - and she had to deal with a few unhappy customers (fussy ones to my mind) and coped really well. The trips were the best I think - compared with Neilson and (especially) First Choice. Transfers, greeting, all that stuff - were fine. No complaints at all and would travel with Crystal again.

Cheers.

Thanks Donbon.

Which ever company people travel with there will always be some that are not happy.

As long as they get me there im happy!!
