Pyha help!

Hi everyone

Im really excited to read all the great reviews for those of you who have recently got back.

We are going to Pyha in Feb, staying in the log cabins. Has anyone been there, as most seem to go to Levi or yllas?

Thanks for your help

not been there but was looking at booking for next year, they look lovely, pyha itself looks truely magical and wild, I hope you have a fab time

|||

I agree. Ill let you know when we get back, and hopefully it might sway your decision!

|||

unfortunately it hasn%26#39;t as the 3.5 hour transfer time to pyha swayed me to yllas

|||

YES…..WE LOVE PYHA

Pyha is wonderful and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back……..I agree that the transfer time is off putting……Shame they don’t fly into Rovaniemi which is about an 1½ hours transfer………..(we had a car and drove up after visiting Family so it wasn’t an issue).

I haven’t gone to Levi or Yllas yet and I think Pyha is a much smaller resort……but it still has all the activities.

Middle of February we had one day with temperature -31.…….but it was getting warmer towards end of February……a few days later I hired a snowmobile and I had to laugh when the lady in the snowmobile place said it was a warm day at -10.

If you like chocolate go to the chocolate shop……the lady there makes the chocolates herself………she also helped me when I got the car stuck in the snow.

I am sure you will have a great time……the area is peaceful with lovely scenery and friendly helpful locals.

Thanks for that. It%26#39;s true though, the transfer time is not good, however, we do land in the morning, so hopefully, well be able to take in the scenery on route.

We were thinking of hiring a car when we get there. Any tips on whether this is a good idea for first timers?

I cant imagine what -31 must be like, but I cant wait to find out, and the chocolate shop will definitely be having a bumper sales week when I get there.

It would be great if we could catch the northern lights aswell. Have you ever seen them?

Thanks again for your help!

We%26#39;ve booked a ski/snowboard holiday to Canada %26amp; the transfer is 5 hours, so count yourself lucky LOL!

Hi Julie

Car hire is an option, the hire cars have winter studded tyres and I found the driving easier than I thought it would be…….at first I was freaked out by not been able to see the road or any road markings…..but soon got used to it and quite enjoyed the driving. Be careful on smaller side roads and try not to ascend them as I did and needed towing out as the car lost grip and slipped back into a snow bank. In Pyha it is possible to ascend on the main road and the drive down hill on the smaller side roads. The main roads are well maintained and we drove around a fair bit…We hired a car from Scandia Car Rental (at the time they gave us the best deal). ……….....…http://www.scandiarent.fi/content/en/1/2/2.html…………………………they have offices in Luosto at the Hotel Aurora Chalet (?20 odd miles from Pyha) I am guessing they may deliver the car to you in Pyha.

We were lucky to see the northern lights one night from outside our cabin….not a big show….a fairly faint greenish swish.

Thanks again Moonbug. Im liking the car hire option, and I guess the Northern lights would be a benefit.

Where are you off to next?

The car is great when you have young ones……..The other resort Luosto is short-ish drive away……..you can drive to Rovaniemi to visit Santa’s village which we and especially our 4 year old boy enjoyed.

Not sure about out next trip……I am plotting a return to Lapland next winter……maybe Yllas.

Have a great %26quot;green%26quot; christmas! - Yuk!
