Travellers Cheques

We have some traveller cheques left over from our summer holiday that we are going to use for Lapland. Is there places we can change them in Yllas or would it be better to get them changed into euros before we go. My hubby thinks i%26#39;m mad and said %26#39;of course we%26#39;ll be able to get them changed in Yllas%26#39; but i%26#39;m not so sure and want to check first.

Hope someone knows the answer to this.

Thanks

Hi we were there a few years ago on the Yllasjarvi side of the hill and my husband had to go to Kolari about 40km to go to the bank or if you were on the Akaslompolo side I think it would be a trip back to Kittila.

When we travel to Lapland we always take Euros.

Travelers cheques are mostly a thing of the past in Finland, almost everyone pays with a plastic card these days. I don%26#39;t think shops here accept travelers cheques, but you might have more luck at the hotel reception. Not sure, though. You will probably be charged a fee for cashing the cheques as well, so I would recommend that you cash them before you go.

I would take a limited amount of euros and a Visa card. Visa is the most widely accepted card, closely followed by MasterCard. Then comes Diners and American Express is the least accepted. Hope this helps.
