What to do in Rovaniemi in June

Hello,

I%26#39;m planning to visit Rovaniemi in June 2008 for a conference. I may have just one free day to spend and would like to see as much as possible. Is the Santa Claus village worth visiting in summer (because of lack of snow) or is it really aimed towards children. I like to see nature and some galleries. Thanks in advance.

Why not rent a passenger car and make a roundtrip :

Rovaniemi - Pyhätunturi - Kemijärvi - Ranua - Rovaniemi.

Distances:

Rovaniemi -Pyhätunturi: about 134 km (90 minutes)

Pyhätunturi - Kemijärvi : about 60 km

Kemijärvi - Ranua: 130 km

Ranua - Rovaniemi: 80 km

Total: about 400 km (5 hours %26quot;on the road%26quot;). If that is too much, skip Pyhätunturi or skip Pyhätunturi %26amp; Kemijärvi or skip Ranua.

As such, Kemijärvi is on a beautifull location, the lake (in finnish: järvi) is %26quot;allover the place%26quot;. Well, Rovaniemi is nicely located by the river, too.

In summer, every second year, in Kemijärvi there is a wood sculpting festival, the artwork from the previous years (1985 -2007) can be seen in an exhibition hall.

When heading from Kemijärvi towards Ranua, in villages of Luusua, Juujärvi and Autti, there are very beautifull views towards the lake and towards the Kemijoki river (river= joki).

From the village of Autti, you can either continue further south towards Ranua (there is a outdoor wildlife park) or you can turn west towards Rovaniemi.

East of Autti, when heading towards Posio, there is a beautifull canyon area called Korouoma. Korouoma is about 100 - 115 km east of Rovaniemi.
