Anyone going or have been? Anyone know the snow situation. I have been watching the road cams but can%26#39;t quite work out which one I really need to be watching.Please let there be snow...this is our first holiday abroad due to hubbys ongoing illness and the kids are really excited.

Hi, We have just returned from the Arctic Circle Hotel in Suomu. We travelled with Canterbury, and everything was excellent. There was not mush snow, which was a little dissapointing, but we still managed to do all the activites which were included. Husky Rides, Reindeer Rides, Skidoos, Toboganning etc. It was a wonderful trip. As it never gets daylight, the forest looked lovely and magical with candles and campfires everwhere. The Hotel was first class and much better than expected. Lots of food, and the Canterbury Elves looked after us very well. A lovely trip with wonderful memories. Have a fantastic time!

Just got back from Arctic Circle Hotel. Without a doubt the most disorganised naff on the cheap trip I have ever experienced. If the last post in response is really a genuine tourist then words fail me. If having children hanging around in what may loosly be described as a disused quarry for well over 2 hours in minus 15 centigrade for a 200 yard sleigh ride (yes it really was that long and magical !!) and then queue for at least 1 hour outside the plainest log cabin you%26#39;ve ever seen is not taking advantage of childrens expectation%26#39;s I do%26#39;nt know what is. Trip was via Cantebury travel .Food in Hotel was lower standard than I re-call in my school canteen.... that%26#39;s if any was left for later diner%26#39;s....do%26#39;nt be late for breakfast !!! Then there%26#39;s the enforced imprisonment for 2 hours in the naffest shopping centre you will ever see. I could go on but doubtless the censor has consigned my missive to that great truth folder in the sky.

Well different people obviously experience things very differently. We%26#39;ve just got back from 2-days with Canterbury Travel at the Arctic Circle Hotel in Suomu (19 %26amp; 20 December) and we had a brilliant time. Our first time in Finland and we loved the scenery, the strange grey-light, the warmth of the Finnish people, the chance to drive a husky sledge, the accommodation (log fire and a private sauna) and the childrens activities on the visit to Santa. And because our daughter enjoyed the trip to Santa%26#39;s World, so did we.

Hi Frame2, in repsonse to your posting earlier, I can gaurantee that I am a genuine tourist! We did not suffer any of the problems you did in Lapland. We had absolutely NO waiting at all, no queues, and the food was basic, yes, but plenty of it and typically finnish food in the main. I was not expecting a la carte, and we were going for the experience of Lapland and seeing Santa.
It certainly lived up to our expectations!
When we went to see Santa, there was only 3 families, and hardly any waiting.
The best advice I can give for anyone doing this trip, is not to expect a relaxing holiday, but you need to get up early and make the most of every minute you have in Lapland, as you are not there long, and time is precious.

I agree with Lilac. We only had a 5 minute wait to see Santa and there was plenty of time for our daughter to talk to him. Maybe the area was in a disused quarry, but there was plenty of snow and most people seemed to be having a splendid time sledging, riding on skidoos, huskies etc. Warm drinks were provided and there was a heated hut where we could warm up when needed. As for the food, we had no problems with either the quantity or quality. The restaurant did temporarily run short of lasagne on the second day but this was replaced within minutes.
My only regret was that we didn%26#39;t have longer to enjoy the facilities in the chalets, which were excellent.
Anyone reading this thread and considering a trip to Suomu with Canterbury Travel, please don%26#39;t be put off. I can only speak for my family - we had a brilliant time.

I suppose the answer here is not to travel too close to Xmas.!!!! We had 4 coachloads turn up at the very non-magical quarry. If hanging around in minus 15 centigrade for a 200 yard ride in a sleigh and then wait for over an hour outside a really dull hut is your idea of a great experience then your expectations are manor from heaven to the tour company. Do%26#39;nt tell me you enjoyed the shopping centre aswell !!!

Dear Frame 2
Gosh there%26#39;s not much Christmas cheer in your posts. Why on earth were you hanging around? Why weren%26#39;t you off on a skidoo, or riding on the sledges, or playing with your kids in the snow?Sounds like you chose the wrong type of holiday.
|||
Please Please do not be put off by anything on this posting from Frame 2.
If you did have a bad experience, frame 2, then I think you are in the minority.
I don%26#39;t think that there is anything miserable about being in the snow. It obviously was the wrong type of holiday for yourself, as you do expect it to be cold in Lapland. My children and I did not even think about it being an unused quarry, as we were having too much fun. As well as being pitch black and dotted with camp fires and candles, It did not cross our mind!
Happy Christmas!
