where do we book for 2008?

I have sat here all evening reading up on lapland and am now very confused!

We (family of 4 - our kids will be 8 and 6) want to go in december 2008, would very much like to do some of of safari%26#39;s and have an authentic santa etc.....but most of all we would like snow! Obviously I know this can%26#39;t be guaranteed but where would be the best place?

I%26#39;ve never known there not to be snow in Levi or Yllas, the least I have known is 10cm but last year wast the best there was loads.

As you said there is no guarantee%26#39;s but you would very unlucky to have none.

Hi - we did a day trip to lapland just before Christmas, 20th December, and went North to Enontekio. I was worried about the lack of snow, and although the weather was mild, -6, there was snow, about 15-25cm, deeper off the main track. The day was fantastic (kids aged 9 and 6), skidoos, kids skidoos, husky ride, sleigh ride, kick sledging, snow castle and of course Santa. Santa was absolutely amazing and so real! I would have paid a million dollars for the look on my kids faces when they met santa - it was priceless.

which company did you travel with?

I have picked up brochures for First choice, and see we can fly from Bristol (which would be great) to Rovaneimi....but wasn%26#39;t sure if this was a good place to stay? None of the pics seem to show much snow, but they do at Levi and Yllas.

We went with Canterbury Travel. I now seem to have got the lapland bug, and would definitely like to go for longer in 2008. I%26#39;m new to trip adviser but reading alot of the the postings, they keep throwing up new travel names that I%26#39;ve not heard of such as Emagine. It%26#39;s mind boggling.

Go to yllas.

go to first Choice and look at their brochure. you will get all you want with them.

Raovaniemi is nice but yllas is that bit further north and has more snow.

Rovaniemi could be a gamble, you might have snow, but, no guarantee in December, but Yllas almost certainly will, plus it%26#39;s a lovely place, especially Akaslompolo which is very unspoilt.

I would recommend Yllas, very beautiful and very unspoilt.

I would not travel with First Choice though as they are a total rip off on the cost of excursions once there.

I would absolutely reccommend Emagine if you want all inclusive and an excellent Santa experience. When we went to Saariselka it was very warm (-1 to +4) which was totally unheard of, BUT there was still lots of snow.

I would stay away from Rovaneimi before Christmas if you want guaranteed snow! Yllas and Levi are good depending what you want!

I think the prices are cheaper with first choice or Cosmos however all the trips the reps sell you can be booked in all the resorts MUCH cheaper! so don%26#39;t be afraid to just use a chrter holiday firm for just your hotel and flights as this may work out much cheaper!
