meat products

we fly to kittila via Helsinki from manchester this friday and was going to get some bacon and sausages vacuum packed from local butcher, but checked out some website and it appears as if you cant take any in. Has anyone had any experience or advice?

We took bacon and sausages through and did not have any problems.

Hmm, if you pack them in your check in luggage, should be fine. A friend of mine took home a whole Parma Ham with no problem.

It really makes no sense bringing sausages to Finland from the UK, we absolutely have much better sausages here. Also bacon readily is available, but it is the thin American style.

Sorry polarbeafin but like the english bacon and sausages better or should i say the children do!We packed them in a cool bag and put them in our cases not sure if we was surpossed to but took a chance.

thanks v much for that. Will take a chance. I prefer to take own bacon as it is nice and thick and kiddies wont eat any sausages if there is any hint of herbs etc in them. Looking forward to trying the local food though.

the rule at present is that you can not take any raw meats into Finland - this is due to blue tongue, mad cow and bird flu - you can however take in cooked meats - this rule was being updated today I believe

You do not have to worry about finding herbs in sausages in Finland :) In fact, you cannot really find British type raw sausages at all, they are almost all (2 specific types excluded) cooked and more like frankfurters.

The fussiest eaters usually go for %26quot;smooth%26quot; varities such as %26quot;Atrilli%26quot;, %26quot;Camping%26quot; or %26quot;HK Sininen%26quot; (see eg. http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=39617)

whereas eg. %26quot;Kabanossi%26quot; is a meatier option.

Finnish bacon is lovely, much better than English
