Hi
I have just come back from a four day stay at Hotel Saaga. One piece of advice for you. Don%26#39;t eat the buffet food. We all complained about it and apparently someone was really ill after it. The staff behind the receiption desk are OK. We felt that we were a bit of a nuisance to them when we asked them anything. There are no shops (only the small one beside Hotel) so the hotel is a bit of a rip off when you want to buy water - they don%26#39;t even have a water cooler in the gym! You have to buy from receiption. The pool was great and the gym not badly equipped. The hotel rooms are small though. I wouldn%26#39;t rate this hotel as a 4 star...more like a two star to me and I wouldn%26#39;t go back.

OK - so I%26#39;m sat in the reception of the hotel right now. And I have to wholeheartedly DISagree with the last posting. I guess that%26#39;s what the forum%26#39;s for though...
We are 4 days in - staying in one of the apartments - and I think that the buffet food is just fine. At breakfast there is a hot choice usually of scrambled eggs, with bacon, diced potatoes, then either mushrooms or tomatoes. Also a cold buffet with melon and fruit, salad (!), cold meats and cheese. Cereal buffet, and fruit salad and yoghurt. Lots of (very nice) bread, fruit juices and water, coffee and tea. No complaints.
We%26#39;re half board and so dinner too - again plenty of choice - with hot and cold buffet, always soup too, small choice of pudding, fish and vegetarian. No - haute cuisine it%26#39;s not - but it%26#39;s fine for a week away and we have always been full up. Better than the Novotel in South London where we were just before Christmas - that%26#39;s for sure!!
What the other person did not mention was everything else.
The gym looks well equipped - but quite who has the energy to swim after skiing all day I%26#39;ll never know!
The pool area is great - not cold - as reported - a really good place for families - complete with nice changing rooms, his and hers sauna and steam rooms and a jacuzzi and bar!! This meant that there were a few people with beers in the jacuzzi - now that%26#39;s relaxed ilving.
We are in the apartments - which are very comfortable - though ask for a room closer to the hotel. We are on the top floor in block 3. Get in block 2 and there%26#39;s less of a walk. Rooms are clean, spacious, well equipped - though not with washing machine as brochure suggests. There is a laundry room though - and it%26#39;s free. That%26#39;s why I%26#39;m sat here now - waiting for washing!!
I don%26#39;t know about bar prices since I%26#39;ve not paid for any rounds yet. We did bring a couple of wine boxes - one of which is in the fridge and so we have a drink and relax in the apartment in the evening once the kids have gone to bed.
I%26#39;ll post again - just wanted to react to the question posted. I would recommend the hotel. It%26#39;s new, well equipped, friendly, and the pool is a great facility to have. Oh - a friend booked a massage - 38 Euros I think - and that was good too!
Cheers from Yllas.

ps is it really ski to door?
|||
Colsisbob - last post before I%26#39;m off to the slopes.
Rooms - not sure about hotel, but apartments - try and get block 2, not 3. Then floor 2, or 3 if you must. Apartments are labelled 3203 = block 3 (ie furthest), floor 2, room 03.
No - not ski to door at the moment since the piste and lift closest to the back door of the hotel is not open. You have about a 5 minute yomp from the Saaga to the slopes which are open.
It snowed yesterday - but not today - could still do with more snow, but it%26#39;s ok.
We went on trips the last two days so did not ski yet.
TRIPS
We went with Arctic Safaris which are based in the hotel. Very good. Quick recommendations so I can get out ..... Huskies and snowmobile trip - called Arctic speed I think - 1000 on a Saturday - fantastic!!
Same for reindeer and snowmobile trip - think it%26#39;s called legent of the 4 winds - about a 40km snowmobile ride in total - both trips you are out about 4 hours in total. Wrap up warm. 2 layers underneath your snowsuit (get free from Arctic Safaris) and two pairs of socks. Extra layer on your top. Warm gloves. OK for 5 year old up - but make sure your kids are warm - ours were cold today and it was only a few degrees colder.
Santa trip through Crystal / Arctic was highlight- really good - had about an hour with Santa - won%26#39;t tell more else it%26#39;ll spoil the surprise.
Snowmobiles are great fun - you can get to about 60kph - the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off...
Right - hope that helps - I%26#39;m going skiing.
Cheers.
