Hi,
my family and I are going to Saariselka on 14th December and we are all wondering what the weather and snow conditions will be like. I have found the webcam site and loads of sites that show me th weather forecast
http://www.saariselka.fi/eng/webcamera.html
www.fmi.fi/weather/local.html…
www.wunderground.com
www.accuweather.com
www.metcheck.com
Nothing though can beat the comments of someone who has been there. So can anyone let me know what the snow depth is (most important bit - kids really looking forward to proper snow!!!) and what the weather condition were like for your visit.
Thank you

Hi
We got back Sunday. There was plenty of snow while we were there and it snowed during the evenings and all day Sunday. It was halfway to our knees when we left and it looks even deeper now. The weather was really pleasant, only about minus 3-5 so we only needed thermals and t-shirt under our snowsuits. It is gorgeous snow, really dry and %26#39;fluffy%26#39;.
Hope you have a good time,
BB

We have just returned today from Saariselka and the snow is great - like castor sugar - soft and fluffy - plenty of depth too by the sides of the roads and in the fields - the roads and pavements are pretty thin and solid as they are cleared by snow plough just leaving a thin layer.
The weather was -8 when we left today and was starting to feel on the chilly side - proper snow was falling this morning too.
We had the most fantastic time and will post later on in the week - absolutely wacked now and ready for bed.

Glad you both had a great time. We%26#39;re off on the 14th and really can%26#39;t wait - although I%26#39;m getting my usual pre-flight jitters now!!
Look forward to hearing all about it when you%26#39;ve recouperated!!

Hi - well we went on the 14th and came back on the 17th. Not sure what to expect with all the talk of warming and lack of snow. Was not dissappointed though. The roads were covered with a thick layer of ice and there was snow everywhere. Not particularly deep in the resort (too many people having walked over it). Out on the Snowmobile safari the snow was deep off of the snowmobile tracks. If you dug down the snow is almost knee level however with temperatures while we were there touching -20C the snow was quite hard and not the fluffy white stuff but what can you expect at -20C.
We had a wonderful time - highlights for me have to be the snowmobile safari and the husky dogs on the activity day. I was amazed at how much pulling power 7 dogs have and it took me all my might to stay on the sled ( I was driving) and to slow the sled down. Jumping on the brakes made no difference.

Thanks a lot for that, really appreciate it! We are all so excited.
Will report back when we return.

Got back from Saariselka on Sat night. Stayed at Tunturi hotel. It was amazing. Beautiful place. All acticities were wonderful. If you want to book extra trips don%26#39;t do it with the tour operators . A local shop %26quot;Husky ski%26quot; are half price and great. A 1 hour snow mobile for 2 for £90.
My son loved the sledging. The snow was deep. Take lots of socks and gloves as many layers on toes and fingers as possible. The rest of you will be fine in the suits provided.
I am missing it already.

We got back 23rd December having had the most amazing time ever. It was exactly as the brochure stated and we were not disappointed, had plenty of snow, snowed as we stepped off the coach on arrival which blew the kids minds away!! We stayed at the Holiday Club in Saariselka but had an apartment, not that far from the hotel but because you are suited up and the snow was deep in places it took longer than normal, but great fun on the way as tobaggans left lying around for you to use, just part of the whole experience. Apartments lovely and warm, log burning fire there and your own sauna. Tiny bedroom for one single bed only, but fine for our son as we were only there to sleep, daughter had sofa bed in lounge and we had our own room. Plenty of wardrobe space. We had full board, but in the apartments are a fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave, dishwasher and all cooking utensils are provided. Glad we did full board as I wouldn%26#39;t want to waste a moment cooking etc...Hotel food fine, not a lot of choice for evening meal but they do keep topping it up, plenty of choice for breakfast. Also if on full board your meals are provided when out on trips. I saw the hotel bedrooms and they looked tiny, the up side staying in the hotel is you can remove all your layers, outer suit and boots and go down to the swimming pool easily, whereas we had to come over in all our gear, take layers and layers off to swim, then put them all on again. Mind you we only found time to use the pool once whilst there. The trips are great, the husky ride hilarious, Santa fantastic. All but one Espirit rep very good, we were prepared thanks to a previous report on trip advisor so when the one rep started being unhelpful we soon put him straight! Funny that as we never saw him again and he was supposed to be in charge of our hotel!! The guy who took over was great. The reps on the buses and trips are really into it and helpful. The only criticism would be on the last night the gala night, you are all invited at 7pm to a different room for your evening meal, the room is all done out christmassy, crackers etc.....we assumed we would be served, but no it is still buffett so a mad scramble all at the same time!! Whereas all the other nights you can go for your evening meal to suit yourself between 5pm-8pm, therefore all staggered, here you have everyone at the same time, a real shame as the food on offer was lovely but as we were worried about not getting any main course stuff skipped the starters!!
Would recommend to anyone, wouldn%26#39;t change a thing and would go back to same hotel/resort etc....

Can%26#39;t agree more. The holiday was brilliant we also returned on the 23rd staying in appartments at the holiday club. Gala dinner was a bit of a dissapointment but other wise no other complaint, Still have not meet our rep but every other Esprit rep very helpfull. The Esprit Rangers were also excellent. We had a 4 hour delay on our return but were allowed to stay in resort longer and then taken to do some shopping in Ivalo, which was a nice change and better than sitting in the airport with two kids. Would love to go back and would return to same resort.
