Feddback on excursions wanted

Hi there,

we are travelling to Rovaniemi on 19th Dec for 4 nites. Looking at the itinery we have one full day completely to ourselves. We want to book a safari (most likely a husky one) and have made a few enquiries with some of the well known firms who provide them. However, my concern was that although the whole safari lasts for over 2 hours, the actual husky ride would be much shorter. One of the operaters have confirmed this by stating that the ride lasts around 10 minutes.

Does anyone have any feedback on the various firms and how long the actual husky rides last for.

many thanks

Hi there.

Came back from Ruka on Monday and I would recommend a 5km huskey ride if possible as 2km just does not last very long especially if there are two of you that swop over half way.

I am sure you will have a great time - wish I was still there!!!

I think it depends on the age of your children (if you have any).

We went on the Inghams mini husky safari last week which was about a 1.5km pull. It is over quite quickly but was just about right for my 4 %26amp; 6 yr old. The kids can get very cold on the longer safaris so be careful.

We had a talk about the huskies from the owner (there were 100 huskies there!! The kids could stroke some of them, look at the puppies and after the ride we got to warm sausages in the kota and have a hot drink.

If the kids were older (12+) I think the 25km safari would be suitable and you get a chance to much the sled.

Hope you have a good time.

Hi revilo

Sorry can%26#39;t help you with rovaniemi trips but we booked a mini husky safari independently when in levi %26amp; it was fab!

It was only about 15 minutes but the kids then spent at least an hour playing with the huskies %26amp; we had a very interesting chat with the owner in a kota tent with as much hot juice %26amp; ginger biscuits as we wanted!

The short ride was enough to give us a taster, as if you have little ones the long rides can feel very cold for the kids %26amp; it was great fun whizzing through the forest even for a short while. So don%26#39;t be put off as our experience was much better than expected and we don%26#39;t feel we missed out by not booking a longer ride (we all fell in love with the huskies too!!)

Have fun, Loulou

We have just returned back from Rovaniemi, and we booked a Husky ride which was brilliant. There were only seven of us on the Safari as most people wanted to get ready for the gala dinner. My husband and I had our own sled with him driving the dogs!! He thought it was brilliant. We met the dogs first and the puppies, they were only two weeks old, then onto the ride. It lasted about 45 minutes and was absolutely fantastic, plus we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights when we were halfway round, so we stopped to watch them for a while. Once we were back we again stopped with the dogs and sat around a camp fire with warm berry juice, absolutely magical. Just go for it!

Oh we went with First Choice, they book it through Artic Circle and it cost £45 for each of us. Well worth it.

Enjoy your trip wish I was going again!

Thanks for all your feedback. The Fist choice one seems a good option (the kids hsould be able to handle that) and the price doesnt seem to bad either (comapred to some of the prices I have seen). Petmaur, did the safari have a particular name??

thanks again

Hi revilo,

The name of the ride is called Husky Trail Blazer, they do one between 3p.m and 5p.m and the other between 5 - 7. thats the one we went on,

Have a great time.
