hi Rob,
we have just returned from a 4 night break at the Snow Princess, got back yesterday 9th Dec.
I will try and answer your questions as honest as i can.
We found the food to be ok, i have had alot worse abroad. Although we did hear some people moan about it. The restaurant is upstairs with a nice view over the surroundings.
Please bare in mind there is no lift in the hotel. If we had known this i would of requested a ground floor room as i was with my mum and two kids.
The hotel only has a small bar area in the reception but it is quite nice, just not enough seating for the amount of guests. They do a wicked hot chocolate with cream and marsh mellows on top.
Not alot to do in the way of entertainment at night. A small games room and play area for the kids. Although the reps did do a quiz night which was fun. We booked through First Choice and the reps were great. Festive Phil (he is brill) magic Michelle and Becky bells.
The temp. while we were there was -1 but the week before it was -24. It changes so fast. we had rain all day friday then snow all day on sat.
I didn%26#39;t see the Northern lights but they do a night snow mobile trip through the woods (think it%26#39;s for 3 hours) adults only. If it%26#39;s a clear night this is supposed to be a good way of seeing them. But didn%26#39;t do this myself.
Our room was nice and clean with a mini bar and also a sauna in your bathroom. It had quite steep wooden stairs up to the 3rd and 4th beds. The ceiling up there was quite low so more suitable for kids. Mine are 10 and 13 but i made them leave the light on all night in case they needed to go to the loo because the steps are so steep. There was a gate at the top but to be honest i wouldn%26#39;t put young children up there.
The trips are expensive but we did the reindeer sleigh and the huskies. I loved the huskies best just because they are faster. You also get the chance to drive the husky sleigh if you want and drive the snow mobiles. You do get taster rides but they are very short but it gives you an idea of whether to pay for the trip.
They provide plastic sledges outside the hotel to use and the adults were having as much fun on them as the kids.
Yllas itself is very picturesque with the snow. There is a supermarket and souvenir shops approx. 10 mins walk away.
Do make sure that your mobile phone will work over there because mine wouldn%26#39;t and they don%26#39;t have public telephones.
If you did want to hire a snow mobile there are a coulpe of hire places just across the road from the hotel and they were a hell of alot cheaper than the first choice trip.
There is a bus that takes you to the ski slopes if you want to go.
Overall we all enjoyed our holiday esp. the kids they didn%26#39;t want to come home and i would go back there. It%26#39;s quite and not commercial in any way.
One more thing if you smoke take your cigarettes with you because you can%26#39;t buy them at the airport and take them to finland, much to my dismay. And Kitilla airport doesn%26#39;t have a duty free shop so you won%26#39;t be able to get anything from the airport on the way home.
Sorry this is so long but tried to answer all your questions. Hope it helps,
Jayne.

Have you read the recent reviews on here at tripadvisor? I came back from a 3 night holiday there last week and can truthfully say it was one of the best trips i have taken! And i have travelled fairly extensively and stayed in some 5 star resorts.
This hotel is in a beautiful setting with natural beauty of the area only a step away. Deep snow! Slopes just outside the hotel with sledges that you and your family can just help yourself to and use. The hotel is by no means luxary but I found nothing wrong with it. Some have described it as basic. The rooms are cosy enough with a sauna in. There is a kettle with tea making facilities. Beds very comfy!
The food I thought provided excellent choice and I enjoyed every meal. Breakfast they had everything you could want with cereals, fruit, yogurts, bread rolls, savoury crispbreads, porriage, eggs, cold meats, cheeses, salad, cooked mushrooms, bacon, franfurters and scrambled eggs. I enjoyed it! Lovely panoramic view from the restaurant. Lunch and dinner you had a reasonable choice and could always have soup to start, a main meal and a pudding. Fruit juice and water on offer and of course cups of tea and coffee. The restaurant is a buffet which suits me. Kids could have nuggets, pizza and chips. Local fish was delicious too.
We were never cold as the snow suits keep you so warm and toasty and inside the hotel it is warm. Did not see the Northern lights as it was cloudy. BUT I have been told that Jan and feb are better times to see Northern Lights.
We booked our activities once there with our first choice travel reps. Arctic Safaris are only across the road so you can book activities with them too.
Yllas was truly wonderful.
I loved it that much that I plan to return in 2009 for my 20th anniversary. Also the reps and the hotel staff were all fantastic.
