I have never been, but i am going in a couple of weeks and would love to see them too but from what i%26#39;ve read it%26#39;s not guaranteed, you need it to be a clear cloudless night and i think the further north you go the better the chances????? hopefully someone like pera will come along and answer this for you.

Exactly, you need a cloudless sky because the lights happen over 100 km above the earth. The sun%26#39;s activity is in the minimum right now (in the 11 year cycle) but you can still see them in Kittilä. It%26#39;s just a matter of luck really.

Many thanks for all your help.... Fingers crossed.

Cameron,
Have a look here, http://cc.oulu.fi/~thu/Aurora/forecast.html and click on the 27 day forecast, this shows sun activity for the next 27 days, the higher the figures the better your chances of a good show.

Oh, and usually the best time to see the lights is around 9-10 pm.

Yes you can see the Northern lights in Kitilla BUT remember you have to have a clear night. (no clouds)

tracie,
What did you think of it then.

Kelly,
It is amazing, it exceeded my expectations.
I will write a full review soon(just doin the washing you know how it is!!) if you are flying with first choice, they really made the effort on the flight. i had a lump in my throat all the way there!
The pilot even spoke to the reindeers telling them to engage hooves ready for take off etc..brill
oodles of snow, please don%26#39;t panic.
the only thing that i would say was a problem ( i%26#39;m not a complainer but a LOT of people did) was that if you are staying in the log cabins they wern%26#39;t ready for us till 4pm. we got to the resort at 1.30. its a long time to walk around shell shocked with luggagge %26amp; 2 knackered children. 1 of whom refused to listen to his mother %26amp; wore jeans on the flight %26amp; no thermal underwear, teenagers know everything don%26#39;t they!
He froze in about 10mins!
they then draged us to the welcome meeting at 4pm, just as we could have gone to our cabins so we didn%26#39;t arrive in the logs till almost 7. by the time we unpacked %26amp; had a play in the snow we were so tired we went to bed, so really we missed the 1st day.
next time we%26#39;re going for a week. how people do it in a day is beyond me!
Tracie.
