Help please!!

Hi I know I%26#39;m going to sound like a total novice, but I%26#39;m trying to book a Lapland Trip over this New Years Eve for myself my husband and son, aged 8. It%26#39;s a mine field!!!!!

I%26#39;ve found Davvi Hotel %26amp; Cabins in Enontekio, travelling with Rediscover for 3 nights 4 days......does anyone have any experience of this place or company as I can%26#39;t find any reviews for it anywhere?

Any other suggestions as to who we could book with, that would include some decent activities.?

I know time is running out and I%26#39;ve set my heart on going.

Thanks

Shelleyi

try first choice or Inghams don%26#39;t think they to the place you mentioned but both go to lapland and had availability last week

Hi Shelleyi,

You are quite right, there are a large number of organised trips available to Lapland during December, and over the New Year.

I disagree with Kelly6 (who as far as I am aware has not yet been to Lapland). I wouldn%26#39;t choose First Choice, unless it was one of the only choices available. I would stick with one of the smaller more specialised tour operators. I can really comment on Inghams, but the feedback here seems positive, though they tend to be better value on the 7 night trips, rather than their newer short breaks.

The trip to Enontekio is organised by Transun, and sold by Rediscover as an agent.

You won%26#39;t be able to find any reviews on the trip, as it is a new trip for this year. Transun have totally revamped and changed their Lapland programme this year, in order to try to move away from some of the bad press they have received over the past number of years (some of it unjustified, some justified !). The new locations and hotels appear to be much better than previous years, and the northerly location almost guarantees a deep covering of snow in a very uncommercialised (I consider Levi commercialised, and Yllas relatively so) environment.

I can%26#39;t help you decide which trip to go on, but whichever you decide upon, you will have a fantastic time in Lapland.

Travelmanuk,

Yes you are quite right I have not been to Lapland yet, i was only passes on the names of company%26#39;s that i Know had availability last week and both do decent activities (got that info by reading through this forum)as i would imagine that for that week it will be quite limited now.

I would certainly go to Lapland with First Choice again...as they were cheaper than any other tour operator...However do NOT use them if you want the whole Santa thing...and are taking young kids this was a complete disgrace! However if you want accomodation and do not use First choice excursions, I dont think they can be beaten!

Last year at this time I had resigned to not going to Lapland for yet another year as the prices were huge, then I came across some cheap deals at around the middle of October, thats when I booked and went.......Don%26#39;t give up hope! I would also add I%26#39;ve had many holidays and this by far was my favourite!!

Hi I have trying to find a review myself but no luck. but i have just booked the Davvie hotel over new year so i hope is ok.

Travelman.....Im travelling with transun on friday for a day trip , whats the bad press? Are they not any good? Ive saved up all my pennies!

|||

The %26quot;bad press%26quot; was blown out of all proportion by the national tabloid newspapers (ie the Sun, Express, Mirror).

Essentially there was a picture of Santa meeting children in a cafe, with %26quot;tomato sauce%26quot; bottles in the background.

What the papers didn%26#39;t bother to mention was the fact that Transun had %26quot;pulled out all the stops%26quot; to arrange a meeting with Santa at very short notice, and had to find a Santa and somewhere to host the meeting. The problem was actually caused by the local safari company not providing enough resources for the numbers on the trip despite being notified of the correct passenger numbers.

Don%26#39;t let this worry you - The current programme looks far superior to that of previous years, and the locations are much less commercialised.

Just enjoy the trip, and make sure your children have a fantastic time.

Phew , thanks panic over then!! I just want everything to go ok and the children to have a magical time. We are on a count down now so i shall let you know how we get on. Cheers!

kimij, I have to disagree about First Choice, Santa and kids.

We went with them last year and my kids were overwhelmed by the santa theme. They loved our tour guide %26#39;elf%26#39;(!) and santa%26#39;s visit to the hotel was magical. It may have had something to do with our remote location (Winter Wonderland (Arctic) Hotel - Rov) but when he came up the twisting road to the hotel through the trees and darkness (with reindeer and sleigh), the kids went mad. They all had plenty of time with him and a chance to say hello to his reindeer and sit in his sleigh.

We have just come back from a Transun short break in the Davvi hotel travelling ex Leeds. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin which was basic, the furniture could do with being updated but it was warm and comfortable.

Our one big complaint was the food. Overcooked tagliatelle (stodge),Shepherds pie which was made of diced ham and smash, Meatballs with so much salt in the sauce that they were inedible, Chicken and sliced potatoes fried together with a bucket load of dried herbs. Our children who are by no means fussy eaters were struggling to eat a hot meal and there was nowhere else in the area to eat, believe me we tried to find alternative restaurants. My Fiance and I stayed in the Ice hotel a couple of years ago and were spoilt for choice with the range of food on offer in the village of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. We were so disappointed to find that the Davvi hotel, only 120 km away, was unable to deliver an edible meal.

The transun reps were fantastic and the kids loved the activities, we had action packed days and everything ran according to schedule. There was supposed to be unlimited snowmobile rides for the Children however this turned out to be during a morning visit to the huskies and they would have loved more opportunities. The adult Snowmobile safari was great and the children loved being pulled in a sleigh behind a snowmobile.

I have to say that we really enjoyed our trip however the quality of the food let Transun down.
