Can anyone do a Levi/Ylaas Comparison

Have been to Levi and would gladly return there but equally would appreciate a comparison of resorts in terms of accomodation, activities, distance to slopes, log cabins etc. Anyone been to both?

Ok, since no-one else is up to this, I%26#39;ll give it a try. Been staying in both; The last years in Ylläs, but visited Levi for skiing also last year.

Ylläs is actually two resorts: Ylläsjärvi on the west side of the mountain and Äkäslompolo on the east side. Yj has been the quieter of the two but that is where the recent development has concentrated. Äkäs has been the more traditional side as it has developed around a real Lapp village. Levi on the other hand has been forcefully developed from its start in the early eighties when hotel Levitunturi was built.

In Levi and Ylläsjärvi you can stay close to the slopes and there are both log cabins and modern hotels. In Äkäslompolo you are in a more real village with cabins and older hotels and you are further away from the slopes. The activities are the same everywhere and you can easily visit the neighboring resorts by bus or car.

Fairmeade...quite simply we were not returning to Lapland this year due to having too many other holidays this last year!!(life is hard)!!

Then I was looking on this site and realised I had to go back! so we booked last minute and Levi was the only thing available!

We are staying in the Levistar apartments and will stay for 5 nights to include New years eve!

I loved Yllas(Akaslompolo) we stayed in the yllas snow cabins and took our meals in the Akas hotel(Snow Elf). We went last year with First Choise and we were very happy with the whole holiday except the Gala evening which was a little tacky!!??(others on this site will know what I mean).

To ski you can take the free bus to the slopes if you want a taxi it was about 10 euros, all was very easy and you could then book lessons etc when youi got there.

We were lucky to see the northern lights most evenings-stunning but because it was so clear we never got to see any snow falling :-(

I would advise you to hire a snowmobile! easy and fantastic, wow!! oh and of course get yourself a sledge...has that covered the questions?if not just reply I%26#39;m happy to help and in the New year can give you a real comparason!
