Luggage weight -please share your tips!

I don’t think I’ve been too excessive with the items I’ve packed, in fact all the thermal and quilted clothing squished down a treat in those travel bags with the non-return valves so there’s lots of space left in the case…but 20Kgs for 10 days?; Argh!!

Just out of interest what weigh allowance do you guys all get when you book though an operator?

We are with Inghams and have a 20Kg allowance per adult also. We have also paid £15 each! for them to carry our skis!!

Anyone know the *number* of bags you are allowed in the hold? ie are you allowed 2 x 10Kg bags for example?

I%26#39;m wondering because we will have 2 suitcases, 1 ski boot and 1 ski bag with 2 sets of skiis in, for 2 adults. I rang Inghams and was told it would be fine, as I%26#39;ve paid for the skiis in the ski bag and as long as the combined weight of the rest of the hold baggage is not above 40Kg its fine.

But I simply do not trust this info! The person on the phone definitely didn%26#39;t seem to know for sure and the tone of her voice suggested she didnt care either! Think I will try ringing the airline directly to make sure.

I hate these pesky charter flight rules!

Hi, in Jan 07 i paid to take my snowboard boots in the hold, on the way back i took them as hand luggage and no one said a thing. I%26#39;m going to do the same this year as it%26#39;ll be an extra £30 in my pocket. Dont know if you could do the same with your ski boots as they have more metal bits on them.

It should say on your flight tickets what the allowance is.

We took 3 cases (17-21kg each). If you have kids that pay for a seat on the plane then they ahave the same baggage allowance (we could have taken 4 x 20kg cases).

we haev 20kg each, so far the childrens bags weigh 7kg each and I only have to add a few PJ%26#39;s and stuff, the bag itself weighs 2kg,

for each of us, thsi is what we are taking and we are no where near our weight limit, this is good as we have to take out all the presents.

this is what we are taking for the children, each bag has:

salopettes

all in one ski suite

helmet

2 fleece mid layer bottoms

3 fleece mid layer tops

silk base layer bottoms, top, socks and gloves

2 pairs of gloves/mittens

2 hats

neck gatter

2 pairs of ski tubes

4 pairs of merino wool socks

balaclava

1 pair of boots (plus the pair that they are wearing)

2 pairs of PJ%26#39;s

pants

1 pair of trousers for about the cabin (plue they pair they wear out there)

1 long sleeved top for about the cabin (plus a top that they wear out there)

some slipper socks

toothbrush

teddy

night light

ski jacket which is being worn on the plane

that%26#39;s it, ours is even less as we don%26#39;t have the extra ski suit

I know that we have to take stuff like plugs and fairy lights etc but we are no where near our weight allowance, even with all the extra things, however, getting good lightweight bags is important, our big holdalls only weigh 2kg max where as the hard shell suitcase (that we are taking the presents out in) weights 5kg empty!!

we also have 5kg carry on allowance each, which we won%26#39;t use either

Hey, you raised a good question! I was planning on taking my ski boots in my boot bag for hand luggage, Am i not going to be able to do this because of the metal buckles??

|||

you can definately take your boots on as carry on but teh boot bags are often larger than the size permitted, our mate takes her boots in a small wheelly trolley, they just fit in and the bag is just the right size permitted, as for the metal bit, no different to anything with metal on them, it%26#39;s not an issue as far as I know

HI Poe

Maybe Im just a worrier, but I am only taking enough xmas presents to fill their stockings and I am taking this as hand luggage. I am just thinking that if worst case (forgive the pun) scenario if your case with all their presents is lost or delayed how can you explain that santa cant deliver their toys especially when he is in the neighbourhood. I think I would consider splitting some of the presents over all the luggage especially if you are not up to the allowance.Dont want to worry you but only thought of this last week. I think it could be because we have had the situation that we had no luggage for the first 24-36 hours a couple of years ago, and its not good I can tell you.

|||

we are taking teh wii and the nintendo ds and games with us as hand luggage, the rest of the stuff is split between the bags, with a variety of presents in each one so that if a bag does go missing we have enough stuff to go round, if a bag does go missing then we will be screwed for the clothes for one of us but as you can buy everything out there if you have to

|||

Not going to ask my kids if they want us to take the Wii with us, as I know what the answer will be. They are both getting a new wii game on xmas day, but we fly back the next day, so they dont have to wait too long. Glad you are splitting the presents. We usually always split the clothes as well

|||

I was going to split the clothese but as we are hardly taking any it%26#39;s not really worth it, we we originally going to put everything into 2 bags but thought that 4 smaller ones would be best

as for the wii, it%26#39;s our present to the children so it really does have to come out with us as they don%26#39;t have any presents to open from under the tree, they are not allowed to play any games until the evening any how, not going all that way to play computor games !
