Might sound silly, but how do the locals expect payment for meals, drinks, souvenirs and the like. Is everything done in cash or do they prefer cards. I know the currency is euros but does one take travellers cheques or just hard cash?
Also what does one do with ones passport, cash, cards etc as Fudge informs me that there are no safes for storage in the hotel rooms?
Silly questions I know but one that Hubby keeps on asking me to find out about!

We normally just to take cash and credit cards fro more expensive purchases.
We have safety deposits in some hotels, where are you staying?
|||
We just took cash and left everything including passports in the top of the wardrobe, we did%26#39;nt even bother locking our cabin and nothing went missing, so if it does next year i will blame 1 of you lot, lol

That made me laugh, Kel!!!! We are staying at Snow Princess, TB, and Fudge said there were no safes there. Guess cash will do, and just to be careful. Did I read somewhere that you dont get maid services, ie. beds made, bath room cleaned etc, unless you request and pay for it at hotels. No real worries I guess, but will bribe the kids to do it!!!

we paid cash for everything - but i saw the locals paying for a coffee on there visa cards - what all that about.
We left our door keys outside the lodge in case anyone wanted to come back early - and had no worries.
When we went ski-ing we left our thermal boots in Zero point on the floor in a sledge and were still there every evening when we got back.
BUT - if you leave your sledge outside a shop it suddenly grows legs and runs off.
So beware of little red and blue sledges running around Levi.

Shell... Again you beat me to it!!
We took several euros for coffes and ski lunches and credit/debit cards to buy larger items,trips etc...
The crime rate is very low in Finland and the locals are very trustworthy I don%26#39;t think anything would go missing from your locked room or cabin!
Shell is right if your sledge is full people will leave it alone,however if it is empty...it will slide away...we always slid our ski boots up to the bus stop and left our sledge there,it had always slid off when we returned! However it seems they are everywhere!
I confess our kids did often %26#39;find%26#39; sledges,especially when ours had been worn out by a few runs over that ice rink at the bottom of the sledge run!!
|||
Ours sledges were allways missing when we came out of shops etc, once i even nipped back into the supermarket to get a packet of ciggies and when i came out some cheeky mare was taking my shopping out of my sledge to take it, i told her where she could buy her own in so many words,
Kelly.

We stayed at the Snow Princess and if you want you can pay and get a safety deposit box from reception.
We didn%26#39;t bother and just left our money and passports in the room and they were fine.
We only took cash and a credit card for emergencies but we didn%26#39;t use it.
|||
Whatever you do, do NOT take travellers cheques.
Cheques are not used in Finland anymore.
Most places take credit cards but bring some cash as some ski cafés don%26#39;t take them.

Kelly .. This just goes to show you should give up smoking! LOL LOL (I bet she was a fully slapped up ruskie)...More lol
Happy New Year to you!! x

Thank you all once again for your help with this one! Fab! Cash it is then with credit cards for the biggies - trips, mega purchases etc.
Went into Taunton today and bought our thermals - soooo sexy! Got some fab ski sun glasses for the kids, and thermal socks. oh, 45 days and counting!
