Where are you staying? We went with First Choice last year and enjoyed it. They advise you not to see Santa anywhere as he comes to your hotel on the final night. This added to the excitement for my boys as everyday they wondered if they were going to see him.
He was great, spent time with each family, took some great pics.

This is EXACTLY the type of advice I want/need!
We are staying at the Sokos Vaakuna hotel in Rovaniemi. Did you arrange your trips through First Choice i.e Huske safaris or do it locally? Would love to see some of your pics???? What about snow...praying for snow at the moment!!
Regards

Hi Nadia,
We stayed at the Arctic Hotel on the outskirts of Rov. We booked our excursions through First Choice as we were quite remote and it was easier (had no transportation). It was also our first trip and we did not really know too much about Lapland. All of our trips were provided by Arctic Safaris (http://www.arcticsafaris.fi/).
Our kids loved the First Choice trip, very Christmassy flight over and you are met by your own guide at the airport who stays as your guide for the whole holiday. The guides are actually Santa%26#39;s elves (sounds naff but the kids love it and they play the part all the time).
The Santa Claus village is ok, my boys spent most of the time sliding down a mound of ice! You can go to Santas post office and send cards that have the offical post mark on! http://www.santaclausvillage.info/
We are going to Levi this year because we want to try a bit of skiing.
Start saving as you WILL be going again next year!!

How did your camera respond to the cold? Some friends of mine who are keen snowboarders have said they have yet to have come across any probs re batteries running low due to cold. What do you think?

Have sent some pics.
Maybe it was not very cold where they have been. It can get very cold in Lapland. Take an extra set of batteries and take both out each day.

Dear friends.
we are going to Rovaniemi from Jenuary 3 till 8.
Our agency offers us several group excursions to several places.
But we want to visit them alone by our selves without help of agencies.
Would you be so kind to tell us how much can they cost for us and how can we reach them.
We want to see dogs farm, deers farm.
Also how much can running ski rent cost, how much can snowmobile сost?
How can we reach all this places by ourselves.
We would be VERY thankfull to you if you can share this information with us.
Thanks beforehand.
Viktor.
