I got Columbia boots from Sierra Trading £45ish inc p%26amp;p lovely and warm up to -40 pink and black so a bit girly as well - not the type of person for the fluffy ones and being 5ft 10 would look like a Giant Yetti - not keen on the ones that you dont know which foot to put them on.

If you order from America rem to order 2 sizes up i think it is.

Shell

|||

you may think youd look like a yetti in furry ones id like macca pakka gone wrong (5feet 4)

wouldnt the fur get all matted anyhow the last thing i have time for is brushing my boots lol

jo x

|||

I got North Face Women%26#39;s Nuptse Fur Snow Boots, lightwieght and comfy, warm too with a confort rating of -40, they were about £70

|||

I got mine on Ebay

|||

Jo

I have had both walking boots and snow boots.I also had fur snow boots but not the type that were furry and fluffy around the foot.I found the snow boots more comfy and they were light and quick and easy to put on and had a good grip.My feet were cold on a couple of days this year than normall but then for some reason I was colder not sure why but did change what I would normally wear inside my boot so that may of been the reason.

|||

Good question Jo I was wondering the same thing, Im going to buy boots for us, I want to make sure they are comfy as you practically live in them, (i am also 5f 4in!)

|||

Don%26#39;t get the moon boots, you can%26#39;t tell what should be left or right and they look a bit spacky, they do keep your feet warm though. I had a lovely pair of timberland snow boots which were very comfy and warm and easy to get on and off.

Kell

|||

Yes I agree the moon boots I think are awfull.When I have tried them on I never knew which one was to go on which foot.

Taxi Fares

Hi.

I planed to visit Helsinki and Rovaniemi at mid. january.

Which is the cost of taxi from airport to Sokos Presidentti hotel in Helsinki?

Tks.

|||

The taxi fare should be around 40 euro. There is also the possibility to take an Airport Taxi which is one you share with others, so there might be a couple of stops on the way. The cost for that is 22 euro per person.

|||

Te We,

Tks. for yr. reply.

snow

hi

What is the snow like in Yylas or levi in december.

we had a day trip to rovaneimi and there was not very much.we loved lapland and would love to visit any place for a week but not very sure on when would be best to go.

still not sure where.

sal:%26lt;)

|||

There is always snow In Yllas/Levi in December, last year was a good year. But it%26#39;s a bit hit and miss to how much there will be, the least I%26#39;ve known is 10cm, the most I have know is 100cm.

It%26#39;s not getting progressively less it jsut varies year to year.

|||

End of February- beginning of March is definitely the best time to go, click on my profile and have a look at my pics to see what the weather is like :-D

|||

Nice pics Snow Daisy, what month did you go?

|||

4th March-18th March

Gorgeous long days of sunshine making the snow look like it had glitter mixed in.....but above all the best bit lots and lots of fresh powder snow :-D

|||

We have always gone to Levi the first or second week in December and there has always been snow.

This year was the most snow that I had seen at that particular time of year,but it did start to melt on our last few days.

Think the first week of December hit a really good week as they had lots of snow fall which made everywhere lovely for us when we arrived.

I love the darkness as it just makes the place feel special at christmas time.

Help! Packing List!

Oh guys, help me out here! I read a fantastic thread the other night that someone had posted including a list of what to pack! Can%26#39;t find it now for toffee, but remember it had loads of good things on it that I hadnt thought of and meant to print it out at the time. Needless to say I didnt! Does anyone know the thread off the top of their heads...

Carrie x

|||

No worries. Panic over! Found the thread; Check List add help! 4 or 5 pages back! Just keep thinking of all the things I should be taking and wondering if they are necessary!

Carrie

|||

Hi

Its under a thread called Check List add/help.

I liked that one too!

:)

|||

Doh!!!!

You found it :0

:)

|||

Yea, making me panic now though... I dont have half of that stuff. If we%26#39;re not ski-ing though I guess I wont need it all? Goggles? Got sun glasses! Dont need swimming cosie - no pool at the Snow Princess, oh panic, panic!

Think I have most things in control though! Loving me thermal long johns bought today! Soooo yummy, not! But i have to say, very warm! Nearly passed out in the changing rooms of Soccer Sports today. And a bargain, from £19.99 to £4.49. Yippeeeeee!

xxx

|||

I went shopping for glow lights today..couldn%26#39;t find any anywhere:(

Don%26#39;t forget balaclavas...i took a couple last year..all the kids scoffed at them...until the temp dropped below -10, then they were all fighting over them..haha.

This year i have bought fleecy ones for all 7 of us..all in a different print...hello kitty, leopard print, skulls, paw prints, dots. Theres nothing beter than being able to keep your nose warm :)

Tracey

|||

Tracey, are you talking about those glow stick things? The ones that you bend and they sort of crack and then glow all night? If so, they normally have that kind of thing in Poundland. Do you have one near you? Sells quality stuff all for a quid - ooops, sorry, did I say quality?!

Another silly question then, what do we do with the glow sticks? No rude answers please!

XC

|||

carrie..

i%26#39;m not entirely sure what we%26#39;re supposed to do with them....but everyone else was taking them....wouldn%26#39;t want to feel left out. :D

Someone stuck them on their snowman as hair..that sounded quite cool!

However, i think they just help us locate our kids in the dark....there%26#39;s lots of that in lapland%26gt; LOL

tracey

|||

We played hid and seek with our in the snow - just left the tip out so it would glow - daughter had one around her neck when ski-ing so i could spot her coming down the slopes, Plus we used to throw them and race to see who could get to it first whilst falling about stupidly in the snow.

Sooooooooooo many things you can do with a Glow Stick. lol

Shell

|||

Sounds fab! Clearly I must journey into Poundland tomorrow to get some!

Carrie

|||

Off to pound land tomorrow for lots of glow sticks...oh, the fun and games we can have with them!

Nearly ready now...almost finished packing...tickets:check, passports:check, wine:check...

2 sleeps to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ski Helmets

After hearing the very sad news about the 11 year old boy who has died in Colorado in a skiing accident, I feel I must stress how important it is to protect your head%26#39;s,especially children%26#39;s,although the young boy was wearing head protection, it was not a recommended ski helmet,Most of us wear head gear for riding bikes, so why not for skiing when we go much faster ! myself and my husband both wear ski helmets and always have, and on a couple of occasions they have saved us from some bad knocks.

I know helmets are required for lessons but as children have no fear, I would suggest wearing them all the time,Most skiers in the Us and Canada wear them, but for some reason in Europe it hasn%26#39;t caught on ....

I wonder if its not cool enough to wear one, or is it the costs ? either way I know i would rather be safe and wear one than sustain a serious head injury ...

Anita

|||

a lot of the children in the ski school were not wearing helmets, as far as I know, it is compulsary for upto 7 year olds to wear them on the slopes in yllas and it is compulsary for older children to wear them in some other countries, they are also not expensive and are readily available for hire

they do look cool and if the issue of safety is instilled in our children over the issue of fashion perhaps our children would be safer, however, how many children do you know who ride a bike without a helmet, go skateboarding etc, I know loads, my kids on the otherhand would not think about even going on their scooters in the garden without their helmets on, but there again, I only let one of them on the trampoline and a time and still have the child locks on in the car

I may be wrapping them up in cotton wool but why wouldn%26#39;t anyone do this for their most precious things in life?

now you have got me started....what about children who are left in cars, whilst the parent just pops to the shop, you wouldn%26#39;t leave your mobile phone or purse on show in your car, why leave your child?

|||

Totally agree with you anita - My 3 and 8 yr old never took them off in December - We even made them wear them when walking as it was slippy under foot near the slopes - and they took tumbels many times but the helmet saved there heads many times.

Did notice that the very good ski-ers wore them over there prob due to the speed at which they went.

My heart goes out to those parents - hopefully it wont happen again.

Shell

|||

Totally agree.

I was amazed to see so many children this year not wearing helmets while skiing and using the taba runs.

My children are not allowed to use there scooters,heelies,bikes, or any outdoor activities without wearing there helmets.

As for childen being left in cars it amazes me the amount of adults that leave children and babys in a car while they fill up with deisel or pop into the shops.

Even if childen do not ski you can hire a ski helmet at the ski shop in Levi for 2 euros per day!Small price for good protection.

|||

Bluny

You said you can hire ski helmets for a day...can you book them out for a week at a time?

If so, will do that as soon as we get there...we don%26#39;t have any of our own.

Tracey

x

|||

Hi all .... maybe something could be set up just for this lapland forum, like a for sale board ( bit like ebay but without the bidding) for anyone who has equipment to sell, as we all know how fast kids grow out of stuff,that way you can oick up bargian for the next ski season ...

P.S I look really cool in my ski helmet lol ..

Anita

|||

We get our helmets issued when we hire our skis etc.

I only know about the cost to hire them daily as one day we had left ours back at the cabin so had to hire them for the day.

I would assume that they would let you hire them for the week.

|||

forgot to put this one..... some trendy helmets on here ..

www.rxsport.co.uk/RX/Pages/ProductsPage.aspx…

Anita

|||

Absolutely agree, my 16yo moaned that he didn%26#39;t want to wear one, thank god I insisted as he had a really nasty fall resulting in a bad bang to the head which I%26#39;m sure without the helmet he would have ended up knocked out aand in hospital, even he said %26quot;thank goodness your forced me%26quot; he was really scared when he realised what could have happened.

Yes you can hire them for the week.

|||

Its hard getting kids to do anything if they think they are going to stand out ... but if EVERYONE including parents wore them then there wouldn%26#39;t be an issue... just cos we are adults does%26#39;nt mean we are invincible or our heads don%26#39;t hurt if we fall !!

Crystal

Has anybody travelled with Crystal this year?

If so do you know who was the local agent in Yllas?

|||

we didn%26#39;t go with crystel but doobedoo did, she should be along soon otherwise PM her

|||

The local reps were.. Doug, in my experience %26#39;w.a.f.u%26#39;.. I%26#39;ll explain that in a pm if you need me to!

.. and Amy, she was new to the job and slow to warm but with some encouragement really pulled out the stops at the end. A caring and hard working girl on a vertical learning curve.

There was another new young girl there, who%26#39;s name escapes me for the minute but seemed keen and friendly.

In the end they respond better to the carrot than the stick!

Out of interest, my advice to Yllas virgins is this, read the maps, get a bus timetable, get a plastic sledge and hold on to it. Have fun being self sufficient, treat it as the amazing adventure it is and explore. The holiday is a wonder, the place is magical the people make you want to stay. I%26#39;m missing it snow much!.. despite the ankle!

lol

the hoppy skiier!

|||

Doobidoo do you know what the crystal thermal clothing is like? did anyone wear it?

|||

Don%26#39;t know, didn%26#39;t use it, had my own.. but I think they got it from the Lapland Safari office and from what people said it was good, warm and comfy, although the sizing was a little hit and miss. They are also all-in-ones, so when you stop for coffee you don%26#39;t take your jacket off so much as un-peel a layer and tie it around your middle!

One lady commented that not being tall was a bit of a problem as they are quite long in the body; the crotch of hers hung a little low! and she had to keep hoiking it up before she hurled herself down another ski slope!

Oh and you all look the same.. we can spot you a mile off!

But I can see the attraction, you don%26#39;t worry about damage to them , cleaning them or packing the buggers into the case on the last night a little out of focus from a %26#39;lets- finish-off-the-Jack Daniels-so-I-don%26#39;t-have-to-carry-it%26#39; session!

Hoppy New Year

Doobidoo

Levi or Yllas?

Morning all! Just trying to book a week to Finland. We rather like the look or Yllas - Snow Princess Hotel, but my sis who has already been with her kids stayed at Levi and says theres more to do there and that Yllas is too isolated. We rather like the sound of isolated as we are not going there to ski, rather to experience lapland. Four of us going - 2 adults and 12 and 10 year old. Any advice would be good!

Carrie xx

|||

We have been to Yllas and Levi many times, Levi is a purpose built holiday resort with everything centred around the ski slope, not exactly commercialised but a lot more commercial than we went 7 years ago. Yllas is more of a traditional lappish village, very picturesque, quite spread out but everything easily accessible. There have been quite a few cabins built recently in Yllas but mostly out of sight so it keeps the village feel. Both have an abundance of trips and safaris take, Levi has more %26quot;nightlife%26quot; but Yllas has some very nice restaurants and pubs.

I hope this helps :)

|||

Hi

When did you last visit Levi or Yllas?

|||

We were in Levi and Yllas in January 2007, we also went to Yllas in May.

Umfortunatley we can%26#39;t go this winter as we have 4 month old baby and might be to cold for him.

|||

Hello,

I%26#39;m a Finn and been several times both in

Yllas and Levi and also other ski resorts in

Lapland. I find Yllas the best place if you

want to feel real winter spirit. It has the

most beautiful scenery (seven fells), picturesque

village atmosphere and a lot of things to do.

An other place, quite small but beautiful is

Luosto, not far away from Yllas. Levi is compact

but too %26#39;city like%26#39; to my taste, party atmosphere

for young adults. I%26#39;ll propably choose Yllas also this winter for my winter holiday. Anyway what ever is your choice, have a lovely holiday in Lapland!

Rauno

|||

Thanks for the info imago2.

TB how would you compare the 2 resorts?Thanks.

|||

I think Imago has it pretty much summed up.

Levi is seen as the place with the nightlife for the young, especially once the high season kicks in, at the end of feb.

Levi centre is frowned upon by the locals because it as lost the traditional Lapland charm, because of the comercialization, although some would say it is not commercial but having seen Levi 7 years ago, the difference is massive.

Akaslompolo (yllas) still has the village feel, its 2km from the slopes but it%26#39;s only a short ski bus ride away. There a few really nice pubs/restaurants all within the actual village. There has been a lot investment into Akaslompolo recently but because of strict planning restrictions it has still managed to keep the feel the traditional feel.

The other resort in Yllas is Yllasjarvi, which at the moment is going through heave development, with the Gondola being built (should be finished in the next couple of months) it is in much the same mold of Levi, but going back 7 years. Most of the cabins, Hotel/Apartments, shops and resaurants are at the base of the slopes.

I personally like all the resorts all for different reasons. Akaslompolo is my favourite I find it has a magical feel, but Levi with everthing within close proximity does make it easy with small children.

I hope I didn%26#39;t go on to much :)

|||

Tb

That is fantastic info thanks very much.

We to have visited Levi now 4 times in the last 5 years and have noticed the difference in the resort even over the last year,but still love it as a resort but are going to try Yllas for a change as fancy somewhere abit different for next new year.

thanks again the info is great.

|||

We are planning to go again next year (back from Levi less than a week ago!) We have three smallies

(4,6,7)and kidsland was a godsend we all enjoyed it - Is there anyhing like this in Yllas? I fancy the idea of Yllas next time!! I have definitely been bitten by the bug....

Thanks

|||

Janet

Dont think there is the kids land that is in Levi but not to say there wont be something like that by next year.If you take a look on the yllas.fi there is a fair few places that look good to take children called something like animal park.They have skiddoo etc there.

Looking forward to hearing what poe tuesday/bluebell has to say when they return on sunday as if there are things to be found out then im sure they will know it.

|||

In Akaslompolo and Yllasjarvi there is a childrens ski area but not like kids land.

In Akaslompolo you also have two good area%26#39;s for children, one is a petting zoo which also has childrens ski-doos, sledging area and horse riding. There is also Lapp Village which also has childrens ski-doos, reindeer and huskies, you can also find Santa%26#39;s shop there, Santa is there in December.

There is also a nature reserve but that is being rebuilt at the moment.

Heading to Yllas on Sunday

Hi all

I will be flying to Yllas from manchester on sunday, just me and my 5 year old. Would be nice to chat to anyone who will be there at the same time. I am really anxious about it as I am unwell at the moment and the thought of being stuck on my own with a 5 year old is a little daunting.

Joanne xxx

|||

Hi Joanne,

We are going on sunday as well, may see you at the airport or on the flight. You cant miss us we have two boys (8yr and 9yr) who will either be looking like angels or fighting like cats and dogs.

|||

Thanks for your reply silverskier, where are you staying? We are in Yllas Cabins.

|||

you will be fine jojo, everyone mingles well and you will soon find yourself hooking up with other families

doobidoo was there with her son, she broke her ankle, everyone just rallies round to make sure that she and he were looked after so if there are any probs just let people know

|||

forgot to say, you will recognise me as the woman who looks like death warmed up, with a very excited 5 year old girl.

|||

Thank you Poe

I know having read this forum for a number of months that you lapland addicts are a friendly bunch, I just want to make sure my daughter gets the most out of her trip, but really if given the choice I would be staying at home. I have been in bed for nearly 3 weeks with flu bug thingyyyy, and no I am not a man!!!

|||

jojo you will be fine, the cold of yllas will blow that flu of yours away, if you can get your daughter into ski school then I would recommend that you do as she will meet up with loads of people, also hang about the akas hotel as most people tend to mingle there

|||

Is the akas hotel far from “Lumipolku cabins%26quot;?

|||

Hi Jojo

I totally back up what poe says.

I also completely understand you concerns about travelling alone with a small child. You are carrying all their snowy-holiday dreams alone in the palm of your hands and its a heavy weight.

My advice is this, don%26#39;t be shy! Start eyeing up the luggage tags at the airport and talk to people...make some contacts early on!

when you arrive;

Get a bus timetable, read the information about the local area, use the local map, you do have to walk a bit if you%26#39;re in a cabin but get hold of a little toboggan. You can pull your cherub and the shopping and you ski boots around with you!

Put your little girl into ski school for as many days as you can afford, and yourself if you want. You will quickly start chatting, your daughter will make friends and before you know it you%26#39;re in the middle of a gang.

The ski school is awesome, they are just briliant with the kids.. pushing them only as much as they can take and so friendly. My little boy, just 7, and quite shy to begin with, was off down the slopes like rocket after 5 days in ski school.

If you aren%26#39;t up to skiing to begin with, get up on the bus and put your girl into school, then sit, as I did, in the cosy Ski cafe and watch and chat. Even with my broken ankle we still did everthing as booked, husky safari, santa, and my cherub still skiied every day.

As poe said, everybody looks out for each other; everybody helps each other, I was overwhelmed by the friendship and kindness of relative strangers.

The Akas hotel lounge is a good place for coffee and gatherings!

Be brave hon, if you can find the courage to get there it is SOOO worth it.

Good Luck and have fun!

Doobidoo x

|||

Thank you doobidoo

Your encouragement is much appreciated. I think it is just that i feel so sick that I am worrying about getting about. I will have to bite the bullet, but we were so looking forward to it, I just hope I get over the worst in the next couple of days. I haven%26#39;t even packed yet and going to stay at Manchester airport tomorrow night!

|||

Hi Joanne, We are staying in the Armas cabins and normally have a few drinks in the Hotel by the fire on the occasional night (the kids are either running around like maniacs or playing PSP%26#39;s). You are only about a 2-3 min walk to the hotel. You should see and get to know some people at the welcome meeting. Hope you don%26#39;t pass anything on to us all!!!!

Inghams Square Deal Lapland

Did anyone on here take up one of the 9th or 16th December Inghams Square deal allocation on arrival deals? Think allocation was Yllas or Levi if so where did you end up and how was it?

|||

Sorry as you know we did not take it but I did look at those.

Im sure there was a bit on there which you could ask for a particular resort.I know it gave out both resorts but remember seeing when I went into it more that you could actually choose and find out the info of which resort you would get.

|||

Bluny,

Could you pick if it was in cabin or hotel or was it potluck.

Kell.

|||

Cant really remember kelly but it did give out both resorts and although it was said it was a square deal which as you know you find out acc and resort on arrival,there was actually somewhere on the page where you could ask for what resort you wanted.I know that I saw it and will check with a friend later as they looked at that as well.

|||

We have been on a square deal before on a AOA and as you go through the airport the reps tell you where you are staying.

|||

Sure it said allocation of resort and accomodation on arrival but cd be wrong know it was Yllas and Levi, 9th Dec was £199 each so family of four for £800 BUT just not sure where they ended up!!!!

Bluny, Still cant decide what to do and am having to check availability daily!!! think other half wants Levi cos of walking distances and availiability of stuff for my youngest

|||

Yes I know what you mean,I to was abit worried about that, but for us it will be no different than walking from the Immelmokit cabins daily,also there is a ski bus.

I have looked and spoke to some through pm on here and it has everything by the sounds of it that Levi has to offer.

I still like Levi as a resort and will return there at sometime but after 4 trips there it really is time for a change.

There are other things that we will look at doing in Yllas that we have not done in Levi so that will be nice.

Just keep your eye on the availabilty as I know that crystal ski already have some of there accomodation booked up in Levi for new year.

Will check with a friend about the Inghams square deals as Im sure she said that you could choose but cannot be sure.

Do the horse sleigh ride or horse trek though the forest.Its lovely!

Also mini skidoos for children will be a big hit with them!

|||

Hi Tracey,

The one thing i would recommend is the huskey sledge ride we had a right laugh doing our one but it was helped by the fact that our dogs were a bit thick and we ended up doing half the trail all on our own, all the dogs ran right and ours of course ran right.

We all loved doing anything that involved snowmobiles. Have a fab time and look forward to your review when you get back and watch your sledge, lol

Kell.

|||

The only thing that I would add that I really enjoyed was Ice Karting by the gondola.

Obvioulsy all the other things, snowmobiling, Huskies and Reindeers are a must :o)

|||

Horse trekking through the forest (enquire at tourist info)

Super husky safari

Mini reindeer safari (you get a go at ice fishing with the mini one)

Take the gondola to the top of Levi

Go to kidsland when it%26#39;s quiet and have a go on all the kiddies toys, if anyone gives you dirty looks just throw a temper tantrum.

Sledging, sledging %26amp; more sledging

snowmobile ride

Take the bus round to slope 8, nice gentle slopes there (I know a lot of people don%26#39;t bother going round there which is a shame)

|||

with all those activities - does anyone have time for any skiing?

|||

Yes lots of time for skiing.You can do trips in the morning and stll have plenty of time to ski.

Shell fitted it all in and was only going to do the trips and now she has the ski bug!!

|||

Tb

Where did you do the ice karting?

|||

By the Gondola in Levi, I will try and find the WWW for it.

|||

Ok thanks.

I can remember seeing it advertised somewhere before we went but never saw it there.

Dont know if I should find out any more hubby may want to go back to levi in feb to try that!!

|||

You have to ring them a day or two before, to get them to set it up ready.

Inghams V's Crystal - price comparison

I just though for those of you who have not yet booked to look at the price difference between the above two companies, if you have children it is much cheaper to go with Crystal, however, they do not offer as many regional airports to fly from.

All prices are for Yllas staying in the Yllas log cabins (a one bedroomed cabin with loft) departing on the 28th dec 08

4 adults

Inghams - £2164

Crystal - £2008

2 adults and 2 children (under 12)

Inghams - £2164

Crystal - £1463

3 adults and 2 children (under 12)

Inghams - £2547

Crystal - £1882

Hell of a difference if you have children......

|||

Poe

Is it not for a 2 bedroom with loft?just checking as you know im mad!

We have booked the 2 bedroom with the loft or mezz which ever it is!(villa armas)

Paying 1463 for new year for 2 adults and 2 children for the week!and cant wait!!

|||

You have to watch for the wording, sometimes they put 2 room plus loft, which means 1 bedroom, 1 kitchen\living room and loft.

|||

Poe,

Are you moonlighting for crystals now as well as flogging the snowman kits lol.

Kell.

|||

Yes I realise that from when we first stayed at the levi logs as thought we had 2 bedrooms but only had 1 as it said 2 rooms.

So have defo made sure That i have it right this time.

God now i have to go and check!!

|||

No just looking now and we have 2 bedrooms plus a double sofa bed in lounge plus a bed in mezz area.

Oh got me worrried again then!

|||

Sorry Bluny :o) we nearly did than once too

|||

Bluny

Who are you travelling with Crystal?

|||

Do you mean where or why am i going with crystal?

|||

My trip to Canada was £100 cheaper per person through Inghams than Crystal.

Have you all booked on line or at the high street?

|||

Booked online.Could not get it cheaper anywhere else.

Anyway cant moan at that price it great!cheapest holiday I have had to lapland or anywhere else for the week.

Kidsland creche..anyone ever used it?

Hi

This is the first year we go skiing with a little one! I want to have a bit of %26quot;adult time!%26quot; and I plan to place my daughter in the kidsland creche for a few hours a day as unlike most of Austria and France, they take kids from 3mths in Finland . She will be 15 months old when we go in march. Has anyone used the creche? are they english speaking carers? The website says 10 euros and hour was this the case? do they feed them lunch or tea? sorry for all the questions! any help would be great!!!

Thanks

Cath

|||

I used it one for about 45mins - felt guilty about putting my little boy in there pathetic i know. It was 8Euros per hour they spoke good English and lots of colourings to do dvd%26#39;s toys - must admit i dint like the way anyone could walk in off kidsland - no secutity doors or buzzers. He seemed ok in there but cant say for sure as he hates leaving me at the best of times. I saw people taking in packed lunches so i dont think they provide food for you.

Shell

|||

We were going to leave my little boy in there but he started crying so we did%26#39;nt in the end the price depends on how the child is think it%26#39;s a little bit more the younger they are, the children we saw all looked happy enough

Kelly.

|||

Shell %26amp; Kelly... thanks!

My girl is full time nursery at the moment so she loves her playtime! I guess it would be strange, different carers etc....sorry to be a pain but was it busy, were their many under 2 yrs?...

surprised about the lack of security....put me off a bit!

Thanks

Cath

|||

Cath

We never used the creche in kids land but looked around it this year.

It was very quiet in there when we went in also the staff seemed lovely.

We did just walk in and no one said anything to us or even asked us our name but then as soon as we went in we just said that we wanted a look about.

There was a seperate area for children to take a sleep and aslo i thought it was more like a mini home with sofas and a play area in there.

Im sure if your little one is at nursery now he/she will be fine in there.

I would use it if my children were younger and happy to be left.

|||

We became friendly with a couple who used it every day and were over the moon with the quality of care, their little lad loved it there.

|||

Cath - when we went there was only 1 other child - he was under 2 and looked to be settled. You could always try it the once and then make a decision about the other days. Im sure she will be fine - im one of those over protective loony mums that dont like other people looking after my children.

Shell

|||

%26quot;must admit i dint like the way anyone could walk in off kidsland - no secutity doors or buzzers.%26quot;

I find it rather sad that one should feel the need for such measures :(

The world we live in...

|||

I actually though there was a locking system on the door but if there was then they were not using it.

Cannot be sure though.

|||

I called in to drop in a mobile phone I found in the sledding area and the lady was singing to a baby and all the other kids were listening to her - It was lovely and cosy!! I was thinking of putting in my four year old on the day we were doing a ski lesson but we decided to let him do the lesson with us - but I would have had no hesitation in leaving my child there!

|||

Thanks to all of you for your comments and advice so far. Its a fine line between wanting to keep some nursery routine with my girl and us wanting to have her with us, but I know me and the other half will get a few hours of quality time and ski time together. I think I%26#39;ll see how she goes.

Thanks again everyone..

Cath

saaga hotel- yllas

does anyone know if the swimming pool and other hotel facilities here are free to everyone staying there,including those staying in the self catering apartments or is there a charge for using them.

thanks.

|||

They should be included.

Are you staying in an apartment?

|||

yes we are looking at them but still a little undecided. we went to levi recently and our children loved it so want to be sure they are catered for as our youngest will still be only 3 and not old enough to ski so our time will be spent on excursions and just having fun in the snow.

|||

Yllasjarvi has a kids area, excursions etc.

Hopefully by next year there should be a lot more there.

Its still a small resort but with the Gondola completing soon its sure to grow.

|||

thanks for the info, is the kids area at yllasjarvi anything like kids land at levi? with the kids equipment or is it just an area they can sledge on?

also is there a supermarket in yllasjarvi?

sorry for all the questions but you seem very knowlegable on both resorts.

thanks .

|||

No it wasn%26#39;t like Kids Land ,last year but there has been alot of devolopment since, they are building a more blocks of Saaga Apartments with shops underneath which should include a supermarket, they should be ready for next winter.

These will be attached to the new golndola.

Don%26#39;t worry about the questions, I love getting the chance to talk about Lapland to people who are actually interested :o)

|||

the only other concern is the area going to look like a construction site, which sort of spoils the whole sceneary and beauty of the place.

|||

Just checked in Inghams brochure, states swimming pool /spa as facilities...so should be free.

Tracey

x

|||

Work is due to be complete 28th November 2008 and they are normally on time.

|||

thanks tb, where do you get all your information from?

|||

We%26#39;re buying a Saaga Apartment :o)

DVD player in Armas Cabins?

Hi everyone, We are going back to the above cabins at Yllas this Sunday and wish to know from anyone who has just returned if they have now got DVD players in the cabins?

|||

bump,not that im interested to know or anything :)

|||

According to Inghams brochure it says it has a TV %26amp; VCR but doesn%26#39;t mention DVD.

Have you got a portable one?

Tracey

x

|||

It does say in the crystal ski book that only vidio players in the villa armas cabins.

|||

Thanks guys.

I know they had a tv/video combi, but my kids were wondering if there would be a dvd player this time they were wanting to take some dvd%26#39;s with them, just thought I%26#39;d check beforehand. cheers.

|||

im taking my portable for the plane,if the tv in the cabin has those 3 coloured sockets then im sorted

|||

Nice one Andy.

|||

Returned from the Villa Armas on Sunday, and they ONLY have the combi tv/vcr. No dvd.

They are also wall mounted, and very hard to get round the back of just to warn you!!

Really lovely cabins too.

Enjoy

|||

Hi,

We stayed in the Yllas Log Cabins booked through Inghams and our cabin had a DVD player in it. It was a lovely cabin.

|||

If you book through Inghams the best way to check is on Destination Laplands website to see what they have in each cabin.

Which cabin did you stay in?

snowing in yllas!! question on cams as well

Is the road where the cam is the main road with street lamps near ti the lumpinoko cabins / akas hotel?

and looking at the cams at about 3.20ish it started to snow

jo x

|||

certainly is Jo

|||

ohh got to take a look!!

|||

yes its still snowing!!!Wish i was there!Got no snow here yet.

|||

My cabins empty on the 6th Jan if you want to go, very cheap flights with Inghams :o)

|||

Tb

Looked at the flights today and they are so cheap for then.

If it was for feb half term I would of jumped at the offer.

|||

Wished I could go :( if anybody wants to go pm, I%26#39;d rather someone in it than stand empty.

|||

its still snowing and the webcams in resort look really good,nice white trees at last,starting to think weather forecasts are crap for yllas as when it says no snow forecast it starts snowing,o well atleast its snowing :)

|||

Its still snowing there now!

|||

Which web cams are you looking at I cant find any snow covered trees

|||

Levi logs or Immelmokit cabins??

Hi all

Shell, hope you had a good time!!

Can anyone compare the two - I%26#39;ve recently went to Levi and stayed in Levi Log Cabins - our cabin was fantastic and would of stayed again for New Year this year, but someone beat me to it!!

I know Levi Logs are all different and thats why I need a comparison - I don%26#39;t want a cabin that has a mezzanine (we didn%26#39;t have this in our cabin, but I know others did.

Can anyone help please.

Jo

|||

Jo - looking at the 2 i would say the Immlemokits are nicer - further out of the way in a nicer location with less street lights - only saw the northern lights once in 2 weeks for about 3 seconds - i think it was because of all the lights from the roads and other cabins - Immlemokkits are cheaper as well even for the 6 rooms compared to the smaller ones which we stayed in.

Had a brilliant time - did you.

Shell

|||

Jo

I will be cancelling our week for new year with inghams soon to Levi or changing it for another week next year so there will be a 6 room cabin available then.

We have stayed in both logs, and Immelmokits(some of them)Are better I think as there is more space.

|||

Thanks Shell

Not sure where your cabin was, but ours was right in the woods, no street lights visible what so ever and only a ten minute walk to centre?

We had a fantastic time and although only there for 4 days, it felt like a month, think this is because we crambed sooo much in and a bonus the kids didn%26#39;t moan once!!

As I have said, I would of stayed in the same cabin, but its booked already and now am stuck - I like the look of Immelmokit, but don%26#39;t want to be too far out, but still close enough and without a mezzanine, I want proper bedrooms.

Advise me more please!1

Jo

|||

Jo

Take a look at crystal ski at the K5 chalets as they are even better and located nearer.

|||

Hi Bluny

Do all the Immelmokit cabins have mezzanine%26#39;s? I just want more space like I had.

Jo

|||

Jo,

We stayed in the immelmokits and i thought they were lovely in a really nice location very quiet and peaceful and where our cabin was we could let the kids play out the back and keep an eye on them from the back porch doors, i also popped into shells and ours was a lot bigger.

Kell.

|||

Bluny

Where in comparison to front slopes are K5 Chalets?

jo

|||

No some just have bedrooms.The 6 room ones are fab and only have bedrooms and no mezz area like the levi logs do.

There are 4 rooms upstairs and 1 bedroom down.

|||

Jo, our Immelmokit one had 2 bedrooms and the mezzanine (we had the smallest one)

If you go on www.levi.fi then click on accomodation then click on Immelmokit there should be plans for you to look at the layout of the cabins

|||

Our was the first block of the main road A2 - apparently there is a cut through from the 6 room Immles and take 5 mins to get to the roundabout(Blunny says) so its not a long walk - There was a lot of lights coming from the cabins and the porch lights around Levi Logs - we walked around them most evenings after 11 hoping to see the northern lighs.

Immles a very very nice - defo the 6 room ones as they give you the most space and are away from the others.

Send Blunny a Pm as she has stayed there a few times.

Shell

Hiring sledges/ toboggans

Reading between the lines re. sledges and hiring/using/free ones, do you think it could be wise to take our own toboggans (if they fit in the big cases!) bearing in mind we are going in the finish half term so lots of people likely to be around. Are there likely to be enough free ones around yllas for all to use, or if we had to hire, how expensive is it to hire the kick sledges for the week?

Carrie x

|||

Carrie

The finnish school holidays have not started on the 10th they have theres later than we do.

|||

Yea, according to Imago they break up on 15th Feb - we go Sunday 17th, so know it will be busier than usual there. Desperate to get the sledges but Hubby is being baaaahhhh humbuggggg!

Carrie x

|||

Oh yes sorry got the 10th in my head!!Thought you was going then!

|||

Could be arranged!!!! I am happy to go then toooooo!

Just looking at the blow up ring/donut sledgy things on ebay. Soooo exciting!

C x

|||

Hi Carrie.

Go to the sport shop in Akaslompolo, they will hire you a kicksledge which comes with a lock, so if you leave it outside somewhere, it%26#39;ll still be there waiting for you when you come out.

For the life of me I can%26#39;t remember how much it cost us,but seem to think it was about 30Euros, do make sure you use the lock, otherwise it WILL go walkies.

Trev.

|||

Thank you! Just found a job lot of sledges on ebay! Could have taken them all and had a selection for the week! LOL! Or had our own hire company for the week and been a real Del-Boy on the slopes!!!!One day I%26#39;ll be a millionaire?!

Just got a suitcase out the loft as the christmas decs went back up. Keep thinking of the odd things to take so it is now sitting pretty on the landing and I keep walking past slinging the odd thing in it! It%26#39;s gonna be mighty full in 7 weeks time!!!

:o)

|||

Carrie

They sound like fun!Will take a look at them.

|||

Dilly

was that for the week (30 euros) or per day...i have emailed a sportshop no idea if its the right one lol...but they havent got back to e as yet...

New Years Eve Fireworks

Can anyone tell me whether the fireworks on the front piste were any good on New Years Eve in Levi-could see lots of people stood around on the Webcams but no fireworks!!May need to wait until Sunday when the Inghams flight is back for a response I expect but am in a hurry to book next New Year!!!

|||

Fairmeade glad I was not the only one that looked this year at the fireworks!!!

There seemed to be lots going of everywhere when i was watching.

|||

hi ive just got back this morning from levi was out there for new years eve and the fireworks were not very good and it just didnt feel like new year there was no count down or any real atmosphere i was very dissopointed kell

|||

Kell

It looked mad on the webcams with fireworks going of anywhere.Was it a bit like that?

|||

hi yeah you couldnt make out what was the main display was or what was other peoples we didnt go down to the slope though we stood outside hotel hullo porro was worried as had 2yr and they were just going of any were thank you for all your help though before we went if it wasnt for you dont think i would of got organised and arranged any trips as first choice were useless they didnt give us any information on what other trips or things there was to do lucky got to tourist office quick and just got booked in on trips we wanted as they were rearly booed up like you said but if you hadnt said to get down there dont think we would of done half the things we did

|||

Thats ok kell,just remembered now who you were as forgot the good old pm on here.

Did you enjoy Levi?And did you have a good holiday?YeS have heard on here that first choice trips are so expensive.Good they have a good tourist office in levi.

|||

Oh My God! where were you?? I thought it was one of the best New Years eve ever!! I have to agree there was no countdown and there was fireworks being let off constantly between 10pm and 4am!! However around midnight the Levi display went off near kidsland on top of this it seemed everone was on the mountain letting off their own fireworks so they were going off all around!! There was people dotted as far up the mountain as you could see!

I was really impressed!!

Was I spotted on the webcam!! LOL x

|||

Kim

Spotted lots of people on the webcams so you may of been one of them.

As for the fireworks it looked manic to me with them going of everywhere!

I have never seen them go of like that.You would never be allowed to do that in this country.

I hate fireworks anyway but eldest loves them so does hubby!!

|||

I love fireworks so was pretty impressed! British health and safety would go mad!! It was also -22 pretty chilly!!

|||

Oh Kim although I dont like them I shall be there next year for new years eve and will not miss them!

Did they have a hot dog stall aswell????(only joking)

I wonder what happens in Yllas for new years eve?will hopefully find out next week when they all arrive back.

|||

Kim,

I wanted to know a much more important question, where the bars open after and could you take the kids in.

Kelly

Getting Married in Levi

Hi,

There is a group of 28 of us flying out to Levi on 13th Jan. My fiancee and I will be tying the knot at St Mary%26#39;s on 16th at 3pm. It should be easy to spot us, I%26#39;ll be in a kilt!

We are travelling with Inghams and staying at the Levilehto chalets, are they any good?

Hoping for some fresh snow so that I get my snowboard out, after the wedding obviously!

Leigh (the groom)

|||

Hi we came back from there on the 30th we stayed for 2 weeks -

its fab.

We went to a christmas carol svs in the church its lovely - also saw a wedding on the friday before we got home - the bride was in a deep red dress with a white overcoat they looked amazing -

For the photos they were all holding Sparklers which looked Stunning - maybe a tip you should pinch.

Hope you have an amazing time and good luck.

Shell.

|||

Thanks Shell,

Like the idea of sparklers in the photos, sounds great!

We%26#39;re taking a piper with us so Levi will be treated to the sound of %26quot;Highland Cathedral%26quot; played on the bagpipes when the bride arrives.

Listen out for the pipes!

Leigh ( getting a wee bit nervous )

|||

Hope you will be wearing something under your kilt..it%26#39;s mighty cold out there :D

|||

Been thinking about that, don%26#39;t want to break with tradition, but don%26#39;t want anything to get frostbite!

I%26#39;ll be keeping time outside in my kilt to an absolute minimum.

|||

Leigh - ive been married 12 years its brilliant and if you wernt nervous i would say there was something wrong. Hubby would do it all again in a heartbeat - before any wise cracks miss Kelly6.

I would take some Sparklers with you in your case as they prob sold them all for the New Years celebration.

Theres a good Irish Bar around the corner for a quick dutch courage before hand.

Shell

|||

OOOO...I%26#39;m wincing at the thought!

Maybe you could wear your sporran under your kilt instead of on top.

:)

|||

Lol - you could always put a hand warmer up there.

Shell

|||

Hahahaha. lol. That was good!

You could borrow one of mine..i%26#39;ve just had 20 delivered. :D

|||

Do you want it back afterwards.....?

|||

Nah...you can keep it..call it a wedding present.

:D

what type of snow suit for 2.5 yrs old

A one piece jump suit type..... or bib type dunagree with ski jacket

thnking of all in one and taking his winter coat for transfers from plane to coach

but any experienced moms and dads with opinions on best type feel free to tell me as i am lost as there are pros and cons for both types....

and if i did go for a all in one is this a good one i think you have to copy and paste this as i dont know how to do a link

www.skiwearservice.co.uk/index.php…

ty yet again

jo x

|||

I would alwasy go for an all in one but this depends if she is pitty trained or not as changin nappies when they are in an all in one is horid

all in ones keep them warmer and there are no gaps for the snow to get into but seperates are easier in some instance when you go inside as you can just take the jacket off, mind you, you are wearing the ski suit for the protection it gives you outside so for the odd easy of use that the seperates give you I feel that it is best to stay with an all in one, also, don%26#39;t get them with elesticated ankles and wrists, they ride up all the time

the one you have listed looks good but you have no idea of how thick it is, I have always got thick padded suits for my children when they were younger so you maybe best suited to seeing them first, it%26#39;s also best to try them on, for example, the suites from Hennes are massive, I can easily get my 7 year old in the one aged for a 5 year old

have fun shopping

|||

The warmenst for my 3 year old was an all in one - got a Cross one from TKMax for £20 - also got one from tchibo that zips together but not as walm as the cross one and he did feel the cold - also a seperate jacket and saloppete - defo all in one the warmest,

Tait will have outgrown most of these by the time you go - so give us a shout nearer the time and will dig out what%26#39;s no longer use to him.

We should start up a swop shop.

Shell

|||

good idea shell....its a mine field isnt it ...i certainley cant see him being potty trained for when we go not properley anyhow..

arghhhh too many choices out there

|||

we took an all in one for my daughter who was 2½ and she was lovely and warm. It was just a pain when were in restaurants as she always wanted to take it off. But at least she stayed warm.

We are off again next week now she is 4½ and we have an all in one for her again.

Have fun

Ruka Log Cabins / Warmth

HIya, going to ruka in two weeks, staying in the log cabins, has anyone stayed in them, what are they like? Also, what is best toi wear, thermals, lots of layers, both? thanks!

|||

Gosh, I hope the cabins aren%26#39;t that cold that you have to wear thermals %26amp; lots of layers in them !

|||

We found the log cabins extrememly warm and didnt even need to light the fire. We were in t-shirts around the cabin just needed layers and moon boots for when you went outside. Fantastic holiday and we are off again on Sunday 13th Jan can%26#39;t wait.

|||

Obviously i meant what clothing would be best for outside of the cabins!! Hence the seperate sentences, and the %26quot;also%26quot;. lol. sorry if this caused any confusion!!!!! :-)

Im booked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, Ive just got back from the travel agents, we are booked at last! 4th jan 09 villa armas in yllas.

I am really excited (and a teeny bit nervous about what im letting myself in for!)

I havent even told the kids we%26#39;re going yet! I was dying to get on here and tell you lot (now that is addiction for you!!)

Better go now and break the news,IM TOO EXCITED!!!

|||

Great News - now there all that shopping to do. lol

Shell

|||

Great Deb now you can start to get really excited!

|||

omg meet you at the airport debb!!!.... well done you pleased for you all ...bet youll be doing your lists son like me lol

jo xx

|||

I dont think I could get anymore excited! Jo i am going to get a new notepad and start making lists, in fact I will make a list of the lists I need to make!lol

I ended up booking in thomson, co-op wanted nearly £500 deposit, I called in thomson and they said they would do it for £99 deposit, I also got insurance and free thermal clothing for us all and they beat the price by £20!!

So total was £1063! Its definatly worth checking if the travel agents can beat the price,I didnt think thomson would.

The free thermal clothing and boots offer is still on with crystal, for early bookings. So we will also be in the romper suits, that will be a sight, dont you be taking any photos Jo!

levi swimming pool?

going in the morning...yipeee... last minute quiery is there a swimming pool or sauna at levi and if so do we need thermal trunks/bikinis lol

|||

Yes, there is a leisure centre attached (I think) to the Levitunturi Hotel. Guests of the hotel get in for free (or at least we did 2 years ago!) but presumably those staying elsewhere would have to pay! There is a pool, a child-pool, sauna/steam rooms and there is a fitness suite there too. As I recall, towels were provided too so all you%26#39;ll need are your thermal trunks and cossies!!!

|||

thanks

|||

yes levitunturi hotel has a very good swimming pool we stayed there in december.

if you want to go for xmas and/or new year - BOOK NOW

Crystal have sold out of the yllas log cabins for new year, they only have a few hotel places left, same goes for Levi, only the apartments and hotels left

First choice have also sold out for new year

Inghams have places left but going fast

Our friends who were in lapland over christmas have just tried to book with Crystal and Crystal said they have never know them to sell out so fast, luckily our friends managed to get a good deal with inghams as they told them that as they had been with them before that there was a discount code, they managed to get a 1 bedroomed yllas log cabin for £2000 for 4 of them, not a bad discount from the book price, so if you are going to have to book with inghams - haggle

|||

Poe

It Must of been half of us on this site that has taken them all!Have noticed over the last couple of years that all the cabins and good chalets seem to get snapped up first leaving just the hotels.

Worth knowing about Inghams giving a bit of discount.

|||

Plus Blunny has booked for 2 Christmas Holidays - you will have to put one on Ebay - you would make a fortune. lol

Dhell

|||

I asked for a price for new year and there was only saaga apartments left and hotels, and in levi the chalets and hotels. The chalets were £2000 for the week.so ive stuck with my origional dates.

|||

I know shell if jo does not want it I may just hang on!

|||

I would Blunny - you could make a few hunded pounds out of it.

Shell

|||

Yes there will be someone im sure that would like the booking for new year!I sell it to you shell!

|||

Already have a 2 week one thanks - will let you know if my friends decide to book you can thrash out a price with them. lol

Shell

|||

no I meant sell it to you and you can put it on ebay!!

Book excursions before your trip??

I%26#39;m off to Levi at the end of Jan with my hubby and 6 and 8 year old for the first time. I%26#39;m travelling with Crystal but don%26#39;t know whether to book the excursions/ ski pass and hire with them before I go or whether to wait untill we%26#39;re there. Any advise would be great!!

|||

wiat until you are there and book with inghams if you can, they are cheaper than crystal, if you can%26#39;t book with inghams then get to the crystal reps sooner rather than later as the trips do sell out

|||

Thanks for the advice, are they ok with credit cards? Trying to work out how much cash I need to take!

Sam

|||

Oh yes, one more question! I have never been on a skiing hol before, same goes for the kids, would you recommend the tuition for the family?

|||

I recommend you to book excursions from Levi tourist information. They have normal prices no extra as tour operators.

Also take first some ski tuition from Levi ski school, then you can train in Kid%26#39;s land (there are some free lift for everybody (kids and adults too).)

Anne

|||

Thanks, really cant wait to go now. Hoping to go on the reindeer and Husky safari%26#39;s. I%26#39;l take your advice and book when I%26#39;m there.

Cheers,

Sam

Bureau De Change??

Is there anywhere in levi to change travellers cheques? we leave early hours of tomorrow morning and we cant find any detaiols of a bank, bureau or similar!!!

|||

Someone from finland said on here the other day DO NOT take travellers cheques as they are not accepted in finland anymore if you go back over the posts you could find out who it was and send them a pm to ask them about it. in the last day or 2 i think.

Kell.

|||

You used to be able to change them in the hotels, but I%26#39;m not sure if that is still the case.

There is a cash machine at the Levintunturi Hotel.

|||

I%26#39;d say hotels are your best and only choice. It%26#39;s not true traveller%26#39;s cheques are not accepted in Finland, they%26#39;re just not commonly used. A credit card would be a lot more convenient option as it is accepted pretty much everywhere (Visa and Mastercard, that is).

|||

Found the thread it was paying for food trips and security of belongings and it was tapsa that said they were no longer used.

Kell.

|||

Sorry if I was unclear. Cheques are in general not used in Finland anymore (you can usually not pay with a cheque or travellers cheque in a shop). Banks will change travellers cheques to euros, but as you know there are not banks very near the ski resorts, I don%26#39;t recall one even in Levi.

Some hotels may cash travellers cheques but they are under no obligation to do so and as I understand they will charge a fee.

Just wanted to point out for future travellers that travellers cheques are impractical in Lapland. Use a credit/debit card - in Finland they are accepted almost everywhere (with the exception of some ski cafés etc.). And there is no minimum amount so you can buy your bubble gum with your Visa.

Additionally you should bring a few euros (for the cafés etc.) if you do not want to use the atm:s.

|||

Tapsa,

Thanks for clearing that up for us.

Kelly.

|||

you can cash travellers cheques in Lapland. Mostly in hotel receptions or banks. In Levi there are no bank but try hotels. They charge about 5 euros per cheque.

Probably a silly question?

Hi

I have booked for Dec 08 for Yllas with Inghams. It says on line when I booked %26quot;Free snowshoe and cross-country equipment rentals included for Inghams guests.%26quot; This is probably a silly question but what does this include? Is this for your full stay. Did anyone take advantage of these this year (07) I got my invoice in last week and it doesn%26#39;t mention it.

Does anyone who has been here have any info on this?

Thanks

|||

Not yet but I%26#39;m off on the 13th and asked the same question a few weeks ago. I%26#39;ll report back when I return if no-one else has in the meantime!

|||

Hi yeah we used this when we went in Jan 07, We going back in a few weeks time too.

Anyways... That is for your whole stay. We Collected ours on the first day and took them back on the morning we left. Infact we took them back and then realised we could have left them at the AKAS hotel in a black sack with your name and log cabin number on them.

It includes obviously the snowshoes, cross-country skiis, and the shoes and poles to go with them. They measure out the shoes and poles so the shoes fit and the pole is the right height.

Hope this helps.
