Hiring sledges/ toboggans

Reading between the lines re. sledges and hiring/using/free ones, do you think it could be wise to take our own toboggans (if they fit in the big cases!) bearing in mind we are going in the finish half term so lots of people likely to be around. Are there likely to be enough free ones around yllas for all to use, or if we had to hire, how expensive is it to hire the kick sledges for the week?

Whilst in Yllas last week, we had loads of sledges lying around that everyone used, and a few kick-sledges too. Though most people who hired the kick sledges did padlock them up to a post etc because they are very popular!

We enjoyed the road behind the Akas hotel coming down the sharp bend on both the sledges and kick-sledge ..... oh to be 10 again!!!

Thank you bluebell. Sounds great. Carrie x

Hi Bluebell

How was your trip? I thought I might have spotted you but chickened out of shouting your name - (in the Ski cafe and Julli%26#39;s).

Any plans for next year?

Wish we were still there...

It costs 40 euros a week for a kicksled, either from the sports shop or Destination Lapland. There are no free ones lying around - you have to hire them.

We bought a sledge in the supermarket - around 10 euros? I think. We also picked up another one that had been left. A few years ago we brought back a sledge from Germany which was very awkward and had to be packed separately - needless to say it%26#39;s still in the garage unused! So I wouldn%26#39;t bother trying to take your own.

Thanks Sarah. Do you mean there were no sledges at all, or no kick sledges lying around? Bluebell listed that there were loads of normal sledges knocking around for people to use... So confused between the different types, and where you borrow them/find them/nick them!!!/ hire them from. I guess it will all become apparent when we get there but sitting here in the not so sunny somerset, its hard to imagine!

Ps. Used to be a Reading girl myself, originally Sonning Common, then Caversham, then finally Woodcote (South Oxfordshire) b4 coming to Somerset. Do miss it sometimes, where abouts are u? xx :o)

Sorry, I meant there are no free kick sleds, and when you hire them you get a padlock so they don%26#39;t get nicked when you leave them somewhere - they were very useful for getting to places quickly - there is a seat on the front and runners behind to stand on.

There are plastic sledges lying around, especially outside hotels where people have left them behind, although quite a few were broken.

we are in Burghfield Common - Somerset sounds nicer though:)

Hi Sarah, Small world - my sister lives in Mortimer. We were up last Thursday! Must have been so close to you! Her kids go to school in Mortimer.

Thank you for all your help with the sledges. Im sure we will work it all out when we get there. Just sounds so confusing from here! My sister, Julia, went to Levi last Feb so have some details from her!
