We are visiting Helsinki in February, my husband and I are in our late 50%26#39;s and we have a 20 year old daughter - where could we all go that would be interesting. Are there markets around that time of the year. Our daughter loves markets.
Thank you.

You might find the old indoor markets interesting, there is one in Hakaniemi (Hakaniemen halli) and one in the harbour (Vanha kauppahalli). These are sort of indoor bazaars, Hakaniemi has food donwstairs and othe items upstairs. Local people actually shop there (myself included, fresh fish) and the second floor café has the president´s table - she still occasionally visits the café.
Also at the Senate square opposite of the church there is a mor touristy Kiseleff´s bazaar, probably worth a look, although I haven´t been there for quite a while.
Tourists usually like the Stone church (Temppeliaukion kirkko), which is an operating evvangelic lutheran church, carved right into the bedrock, unique architecture.
If you´d like to try skating, there is a skating rink in the very center of the city, next to the railway station. Music, other program, city tourist office has details.

If it%26#39;s not too cold you should visit the Suomenlinna Fortress Island which is about 15 minutes away from the city by ferry. Ferries leave from the Market Square. The island is listed as one of Unescos World Heritage Objects.
If you have time you could also take a bus to the Old Town of Porvoo which is about 50 kilometers away. There are some very nice old fashioned shops there selling handicraft for example.

If your daughter likes flea markets, why not go to flea market Valtteri, which is open Sat and Sun in the corner of Aleksis Kiven Katu and Sturenkatu? It is held in an old building where locomotives were repaired in the old days.
If you are interested in antique, go to Hietaniemen halli, which used to be a market hall in the old days. Now there are small antique shops there.
