Do many people bother hiring a car, i was thinking we could hire one for a few days to go to levi and have a look around.
Would it be easy to drive from yllas to levi or should we get a taxi?

Hi Debbie
We thought about it but didn%26#39;t fancy driving in the snow and ice. There is a bus that goes to Levi from Yllas on a Tuesday - I got the times from the tourist information, but I can%26#39;t remember them - I think it was to go about 9am and return about 4pm?

Thanks sarah thats really handy to know about the bus, I fancy going for the day to have a nosy! Thats if we have time with everything we have planned

We got a quote for a taxi from Levi to Yylas 200Euros - its much cheaper to hire a car.

We hire cars, the driving is no problem at all, it takes about 45 mins to drive to Levi from Akaslompolo and about 30 mins from yllasjarvi.
There is a place in the village you can hire a car, other than that it would be from Kittila Airport.

Thats great, we are definatly going to hire a car, I think it will be handy and they dont seem that expensive, do you know the name of the hire place in the village tb? do you have to pre-book or just book when you get there?

Hiring a car would certainly make the wider area more accessible to you. Be aware that the roads are well gritted but still very icy/ slippy. A lot of the locals are used to driving in those conditions but you would need to get used to slowing down with gears rather than brakes.

If you are hiring from the village the company to use is yllasexpress, if you can hire from the airport go to atlaschoice.com they are much cheaper.

Thanks everyone, and thanks tb thats great I will check them out

We got back from Levi this morning. We hired a car just for one day which was 78 euros. We arranged it in the tourist office and picked it up from a local hotel, it was Europcar. Driving was fine as long as you%26#39;re careful - theres not much traffic on the road. Its an easy route between Levi and Yllas with the Snow Village, Lainio, in between which is well worth a visit. We wish we%26#39;d had the car longer really as the temperature dropped to minus 19 on a couple of days which was freeeeezing even with hundreds of layers! Definately nice to be able to explore though!

Thanks katet,
Ive decided we are definatly going to hire a car, we can get a reasonably sized one for around £300 for the week so we will probably go for that
