We are learning to ski this year and I was wondering what do you wear under your salopettes?
I have long thermals, but do you wear another layer in between? Last year we wore our thermals, jeans and thermal all-in-one suit on top. I know jeans will be no good for skiing but do you get so warm that you don%26#39;t need another layer?

i just wear thermals under my snowboarding trousers, and they were plenty warm enough whilst on the go, you%26#39;re so active that they do keep you warm. But - you can get v cold v quickly once you stop e.g. on a lift
i am basing this on previous experiences in the alps, which won%26#39;t be anywhere near as cold as lapland.
most important are good socks and gloves!

We had our thermals plus a fleece lined pair of tracksuit trousers. Some days it was minus 19, add to that the wind chill and it was wickedly cold!!!

It really depends on the temperature and the windchill. I personally take salopettes that will accommodate at least three layers underneath!
1. Base layer thin breatheable (non cotton) wicking thermal underwear.
2. Powerstretch tights - very warm and stretchy wicking tights.
3. Fleece trousers that will fit over layers 1 and 2. (these are normally only used on very cold days (ie below minus 20 or when windchill brings temperature down below this).
With Salopettes on top as layer 4.
My salopettes are between 1 and 2 sizes bigger than I would wear in the alps.
We have had temperatures ranging from 0 to -35 in the past, more typically between -10 to -20. (although just come back from Saariselka and was very warm there for time of year 0 to -10 all the time except last day!) So it is difficult to generalise about the weather.
In my opinion better to be too warm and be able to adjust layers, than not to have enough room to put on extra layers.

Thanks for the replies.
Looks like I will be buying some fleece lined trousers then! Beter to be too warm than too cold. Not sure how cold it will be mid Feb? Temperatures were hovering around the freezing mark when we went last December which I know is mild.

I%26#39;m going to Yllas in December with three small children. We won%26#39;t be skiing so should we wear any more layers....I%26#39;m more worried for the children as they%26#39;re only going to be 3, 4 and 7.
Also you might think this is a silly question how many of each item do you take - do you just take one pair of salopettes or a couple, how many thermals, fleeces, gloves etc ? Oh my goodness I%26#39;m so anal when it comes to keeping my children warm lol.
Where kind I buy the base layers from and the stretchy tight things?
Last question....I%26#39;ve been looking around for Snow boots and gloves and haven%26#39;t a clue which brand to go for. Been looking on Ebay but it%26#39;s very hard to tell if they%26#39;re quality items....I%26#39;d hate my children%26#39;s feet and hands to get too cold.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
